These days, with exciting new recipes just a click away, we've come to rely less on old-school cookbooks and more on computers, apps and mobile devices for finding delectable dishes. Technology can be a great tool for reaching your nutrition goals and connecting with an online community, but there are times when it's just nice to relax and flip through the pages of an honest-to-goodness cookbook in search of healthy eating inspiration. Plus, when you're throwing together ingredients in the kitchen, it's often easier to refer to a hard-copy recipe instead of scrolling down a screen.
 
But what's the best way to find the right cookbook for you? If you've ever perused the culinary aisle at the bookstore or taken a spin through Amazon's library, you may have found it impossible to narrow down the smorgasbord of titles. 1. South Beach Diet Quick & Easy Cookbook by Arthur Agatston, M.D. (2005)
 
Thousands of SparkPeople members follow the South Beach diet. This commercial weight-loss diet features meal plans that are lower in carbs and higher in protein, along with healthy fats.
 
Registered dietitian Kathleen M. Zelman recommends Agatston's cookbooks on WebMD. Processed foods, added sugars, dairy, grains, soy and legumes are discouraged on this plan. Each recipe was created with singles and couples in mind, and meets the American Diabetes Association’s recommended standard carbohydrate allotment.

The Meditteranean one, practical paleo and the Good and Cheap one sound great to me. I love to cook, get lots of great vegetables from a CSA and am always looking for quick meals without a lot of added expense since we spend so much on veggies and good meat. Report

just got the South Beach Diet Quick and Easy Cookbook and can't wait to check out the recipes. Also looking into getting the Everyday Diabetes Meals: Cooking for One or Two - it will be nice to have recipes that are already broken down to meals for one or two. Some recipes are difficult to cut down to 1 - 2 servings and my freezer gets so full with all the containers of meals I make. Report
I love, love, LOVE the Oh She Glows cookbook. I have many vegetarian/vegan cookbooks in my library and this one is my absolute favorite. There's something about the spices she uses in her recipes that just really appeals to me.

I got the book for Christmas last year and I had the quirky idea at the beginning of the year to make every single recipe in the book by the end of the year. I'm glad I made that choice, as I made a few recipes from the book so far that I would have otherwise passed on because they didn't seem appealing, only to find out I really, really liked them.

The great thing about her book, too, is that she uses a lot of the same ingredients throughout in other recipes so you don't really ever end up purchasing some special ingredient and use it only once for one recipe.

I definitely recommend the book! But make SURE you have a high-powered blender and/or a food processor on hand, as a lot of her recipes call for their use. Report

I am a cook that is very short on time. I find that every time I buy a new cookbook or someone gives me one, I never heard of the ingredients or it takes me 2 hours to prepare a meal. I would like to see some of the recipes before I buy another cookbook. Report

Not really interested in any. I subscribe to Clean Eating Mag so don't need a cookbook. The only one that looks interesting is the vegan one but I have a lot of vegan cookbooks that I love already. I don't need more. But, I kind of want to get the $4/day one for my daughter in college and my sons who are on a tight budget. Report

I'm going to try the Oh She Glows cookbook. I am neither a vegan or vegetarian, but SparkPeople has led me to eat a much more plant-based diet and as I near my goal weight I want to expand my eating options while keeping them healthy. Report

I love the recipes in the Oh She Glows cookbook 2014 edition. Every recipe I use from that cookbook is delicious. Vegan and non vegan friends, family and co-workers love the food prepared from these recipes. This author also has an App for both iPhone and Android users. Report
