“Whatever you are doing, keep it up!” Those were the words of my rheumatologist 20+ years ago after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called ‘ankylosing spondylitis.’ X-rays revealed my spine to be 100% fused, with pain and stiffness.

I defied the doomsday diagnoses given by an orthopedist 35 years ago, “Be prepared to be disabled and in a wheelchair by the time you are in your forties!”

To that I replied, ‘NO I won't! So, in keeping with my rheumatologist’, I did what he recommended. I stayed mobile and kept moving! I am now 74 and worked full time, in very physically demanding job—and retired in my 70th year.

The awful prophecy did not come to pass, as the Dr. Grim said. I never made plans for anything but happiness and a fulfilled life—and that is what has come to pass!

I love retirement, except I found a new career which is writing! I have added Author to my nursing career. More below.

Thank you for reading my “Geezer” blog.
While there are no guarantees in life, following the Spark principles are our best bet for aging well.
Your animal reference reminded me of the time I walked out of my house and yelled at the big bird who chased the little ones away from the feeder. "Get out of here you old crow" I looked up to see an elderly woman walking past my house looking shocked. I tried to explain I was talking to the bird. Oops.

Thanks for your blog comment, appreciate it. When he first retired, we spent a lot more time together, because it was the first time we were together like that in 16 years. This is his 2nd retirement.
Now, yes, we make sure to have alone time for ourselves. That way we don't get on each others nerves as much.
I hope your hubby can officially retire or has he already? I don't think I'd be in the workforce right now, if I didn't have to. Not until pandemic is over and safer for high risk individuals.
Have a good night and Sunday. Hope the book doesn't get too overwhelming for you. I think I'm not going to publish after all, too stressful for me with an anxiety disorder. Fun to write for myself for sure.
