My name is Brenda. I am 56 yrs. young! My husband Ron and I have been married 37yrs. We were high school sweet hearts and got married two weeks after I graduated. We have two children. Andrew 33 yrs. graduated with his Master Degree in Workforce Education from Southern IL University at Carbondale. Kristin 31 yrs. graduated from Illinois State University and is a Special Education teacher. I've been a Home Daycare Provider for the past 37yrs. I retired in 2016 and now just watch my grandsons. My husband is a farmer. I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I have tried every diet and read so my weight loss books. I joined a weight loss group called TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) in 1999. It took me two years to lose 145Ibs. I still attend TOPS meetings weekly. I need the group support and need the weekly weigh in. I eat a low fat diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. I eat lean protein mainly chicken or pork. I exercise twice a day when possible. I love to walk outside and ride my bike. I joined a Fitness Center four years ago. I try to lift weights 2 to 3 days a week. I use the treadmill, elliptical trainer, and ride an exericse bike. I'm trying to train to run in a 5k race. I had maintained my weight until January 2009. I had Abdominal Plastic surgery to have my excess stomach skin removed. I've had many very painful sores and infections on my abdomin due to all my extra skin folds from the weight loss. This surgery was very tramatic. I lived in a lazyboy recliner for three months. I could not lie in a bed for over three weeks. I could not do anytype of exercise for 3 months after my surgery. I just about went crazy with no physical activity. I watched every bite of food that I ate. I gained about 15Ibs. and have only lost about 5Ibs. since I started exercising again. It's been so frustrating that I'm having such a hard time getting the extra pounds off. When I went in for my physical my physcians assistant told me about Sparkpeople. I'm learning my way around the site and love it! I hope this site can help me get my extra pounds off. Wish me luck!!!

My Goals:
To lose 15Ibs.
Drink more water and less Diet Coke
Do Cardio Exercises 30 to 60 minutes daily.
Weight train 2 to 3 days per week
Train to run a 5k race next spring.


My Program:
Eat a low fat diet full of fruits and vegetables. Watch my calories following my Spark Nutrition tracker guidelines. I am very active and workout 7 days a week.

I love to read magazines and books. Enjoy hiking and bike riding. We love to visit our son at SIU in Carbondale. Southern IL has awesome parks and beautiful Wine Trails.

    Hi Brenda! I'm happy to hear you're having a great summer with your kiddos! How are your back and knees feeling? Do you feel like you've turned a corner as far as residual pain goes? I'm doing pretty well. I'm now working overnights, doing 12 hour shifts, plus a few hours during the day, so I'm working between 50-53 hours a week. It's been an adjustment getting used to the schedule, and I still haven't gotten in to a good rhythm as far as sleep goes, but it's getting better. I really enjoy being on then night shift as opposed to days with this job, so I'm happy with that. My husband and I are keeping busy with our dogs and thoroughly enjoying their antics. They keep us on our toes and have been a huge help during this pandemic. This is such a surreal time we are living in! Stay safe and stay well.
