Ms. D's Weight Loss
Hi!! I'm a 33 year old female from NC. I've been overweight/obese my entire life and I'm ready to make a change. I have said this many times before, but I have found reason not to stick to it....basically just being lazy. One of my co-workers began talking about this site in 2008, but I never decided to try it...until September of 2009. About 7 years ago, I made a goal...lose 25 by 25 (my 25th birthday) and to make other improvements in my life, including attending Bible Study, which is the only goal that I've met. For about two years, I attended Bible Study almost each Wednesday (up until my father became ill), but I still hadn't lost a pound. Then in September 2008, I made a goal to walk at least 3 times a week and for about a month or so, my mother and I walked. Then I got a part-time job and the days started to getting shorter, both literally and figuratively, and that fell apart as well. So in September 2009 , I decided to really try the weight loss thing once again. I had gone to 3 weddings ...and though I'm not engaged or anything...I don't want to be a waddling bride. I also attended a series of health seminars, which really made me stop and think about my lifestyle. I like to think that I have an oral fixation...lol...that sounds bad, but I like to eat, I bite my fingernails, I chew the lids of my ink pens and I love chewing gum. There are times when I feel like I just want to eat...just to be putting something in my mouth, even though I'm not really hungry. I also am going to aim at drinking water...I looooove sweet tea and can drink it all day long. I don't really like water....I like to have something to wash my food down and to wipe the taste out of my mouth, but I'm going to attempt to cut out all sodas and my beloved tea!! Update: 9/1/15 I've been on SparkPeople on and off for 6 years now. I've never really left, but I let some of my old habits slip back in from time to time and I stopped exercising and tracking my calories, even though I visited the site almost daily. Nevertheless, SparkPeople helped me lose 59 pounds. I made the decision to return back to college to obtain my Ph.D. I forgot that being a student can really be sedentary. My classes are generally 3 hours long and I spend lots of time sitting while I read and study. I started out wanting to work out and actually went to a few group exercise classes, but then I never seemed to be able to make it work on a regular basis. Then in May 2013, I started having a few minor health problems, which quickly escalated. I was diagnosed as having uterine fibroids and between the complications I was having and then "taking it easy" after surgery. I've gained about 35 pounds since June of 2012. During the last two years, between summer vacationing, returning to school, and my health, I've just not maintained or lost weight. Right now, I'm about 35 pounds above my low point. I'm working to shed those 35 and hope to lose an additional 20 by my 34th birthday to get my BMI into the normal range.
