I'm in it for the long haul. Less worried about the number on the scale than I am with the way my clothes fit....and the number of miles I can run. Less worried about body inches than body image....because if I don't love ME right here, right now, then losing 5 pounds won't be fixing what's really wrong in my life!

Fitness is important. A healthy diet is important. But most important to me is equilibrium. I need a sustainable lifestyle that doesn't leave me feeling deprived! While I really enjoy active outdoorswomaning - running, biking, hiking, kayaking, climbing, etc. - I also enjoy a glass of wine (or two) in the evenings, dining out with friends without feeling guilty over the calories...and let's face it, at certain times of the month, chocolate is necessary.

I tend to think of my weight as a side effect of unhealthy choices - because when I live a healthy, balanced life, my weight is within healthy and normal ranges. But right now, I’m very unbalanced. I just finished a double master’s in Public Affairs and Water Resources Management. I grew in so many ways throughout four years of graduate school. Sadly, I gained about 15 lbs a year, not just my first year, so I now have about 60-65 pounds to lose. But now that I have time to plan and prepare meals, garden, and work out every day, it’s just a matter of time!

My Goals:
I want to get back to a healthy weight! I'm starting at 230 lbs, which puts me firmly in the "obese" category. My total weight loss goal is broken into 3 stages:
1. 30 pounds lost. This is a big one. This is my last stop before One-derland!! It's also an important health goal. This is where I get out of "obese" and into "overweight".

2. 20 (more) pounds lost. This is the halfway point from "overweight" to "normal". This is also the low end of my weight range prior to my injury a year and a half ago, so it's a big one for me! The last races I ran were at this weight, so I know once I get here I can get my body across a finish line!!

3. 20 (more) pounds lost. This will get me back to a "normal" weight. This is also the weight I was at prior to grad school!! So...yeah. This is THE big one. The one that represents my return to a healthy and balanced lifestyle, without the stress, lack of self care, and emotional eating that cycled through my life over the past 4 years.

My Program:
I have several very simple goals - but I forgive myself whenever life changes and I miss a step!

1. Be active! Exercise every day, even if all I can do is walk. ST to condition and build strength. Stretch - even if it's just for a few minutes, to keep my body healthy and pain-free!

2. Run - for fun! I've done a lot of longer races, but right now I I'm rebuilding my endurance. And more than anything, I want to remember why I started running - the pure joy and freedom!

3. Eat mindfully. I lost this as a busy grad student, but I want to be deliberate and watch my portions. I don't want to be distracted, I want to savor my food. And I want to eat a wide variety - I try to eat the rainbow every day, and eat the alphabet every week!

4. Be kind to myself. Life is hard enough, and I want to enjoy getting in a good workout rather than using it to punish myself! I want to reach my goals, but not at the risk of injury. I deserve to advocate for myself.

No one could be more surprised than me that a liquid diet is working so well. Other than a few binge days, I've been doing this for almost 6 full months now and dropped 30 lbs. My finish line is again in sight! Another 13 to reach ultimate goal weight. Again, lol.

Unlike everyone else, the holidays aren't a problem for me - it's just me and Bubba and thank the Good Lord, I don't eat doggie cookies!

I expect to be going back to "real" foods again next year - another 1-1/2 months. But this time I intend to keep some of the drinks for when I binge again! I've been having a secret love affair with peanut butter for about 40 years now. There are only 2 portions in an 18 oz jar you know.

    Huggers & Love to you,

Some of my older Sparkfriend's activities are not showing up in the Community Feed, even when I set it to show friends' updates, so I am trying removing them (you) as friends and then immediately re-adding.
    I hope you are well!
