I know what you mean about carbs...I was taken out to dinner recently at Olive Garden and I can't pass up their bread sticks. It helps that I read up on the menu online before I went--I have a restricted sodium diet and they are LOADED with sodium. I have found that if I fill my plate with 1/2 vegetables and 1/4 protein, and eat that first, that I often don't have as much room for the carbs, less hungry for them. Or have soup or salad without carbs. It helped me a lot when I switched to whole grains because they fill you up more. But I know what you mean! Fresh baked bread smells like heaven. My father is now diabetic; having a heart attack convinced him that he needed to be more vigilant about his eating habits even though he takes medication and he also needs exercise on a regular basis.
