Much of the following hasn't really changed. I have a new doctor and she has been brave/kind enough to address the weight issue. I now am also in the midst of various testing to address some chronic digestive issues and really would like to avoid major surgery.
I think of how many times I have started over again, but all the negative thoughts get in the way of long-term positive action. Over the couple of years, I have gradually gained back all of the weight and more. Although it is so easy to feel disgusted and ashamed, I am asking what this is trying to teach me about myself. Through a variety of means, I have been digging deeper and looking at some hard truths. The extra physical weight is mostly a symptom(s) of what we are truly carrying around. However, I am encouraged by the fact that now when I hit that symbolic reset button, I am not in the same place as one year ago. I am armed with more knowledge about the psychology of weight management and despite the weight gain, I am more physically fit than I have been in years. I have been going to the gym 3 times/week and am overall more active.
So the plan now is to follow my Spark nutritional and fitness guide. All of this is only possible through acknowledging that negative self-talk (daily meditation), creating positive thoughts and actions, and enjoying life where I am at today, in this present moment. Over and over again, it has been proven that long-term success is much more likely through mutual support, which we have in abundance at SparkPeople.
I also have invested in a basic fitness wrist tracker and realize that I have not been as active as I could be (Imagine that!!)
Be kinder to yourselves than necessary and just remember that what you may call failure is actually success in disguise!!!
Take care,
Kathy

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
