I am generally a positive person and am grateful for who I am and for what I have. I try not to take anything for granted. I am lucky to stay at home to raise my kids. My family is my # 1 priority. I am 39, married to the best "family guy" for 15 years, and am a mother to 3 very sweet and funny children ages 3, 6, and 9.

Our favorite vacations are camping and going to the coast. I take the kids on lots of adventures, to the zoo, to parks, to swim. And since we live in the NW and it rains A LOT, we love to watch movies and read.

I have done better about carving out my own time. I enjoy playing indoor soccer twice a week with women my own age and doing my elliptical while I watch movies that my husband rents just for me. I also walk our dog in our hilly neighborhood, so I say it's hiking because it really works up a sweat! I make healthful food choices most of the time, such as tofu stir-fry or chicken enchiladas or turkey chili.

So why am I still carrying around an extra 20-30 lbs.?? It's my sweet tooth and love of baking that gets me into trouble. And maybe a bit of depression that blocks me from really achieving my goals. I use sweets to reward and comfort myself, just like my grandmother's homemade chocolate chip cookies used to do. I'm a good person, thoughtful, and nice. Sometimes I think "what's an extra 20 lbs...I'm still cute, still active, I take great care of my family, etc." As for the big picture, I love and am loved and boy do I have it good compared to so many people. But maybe part of me is making excuses for why I haven't lost any of this extra weight I have been carrying in my 30s.

Now that we're in a new year, I want to re-commit myself to making healthy choices and to shed some of this flab from my mid-section. So when our July camping trip is here, I can be just that much cuter in shorts and a tank top. Right on!

Fitness Minutes: 35

My Goals:
Keep being active. Play soccer 2x per week. Do abs work out every day, whether or not I hate it. Reduce sugar intake--NOTE to self: do it this time!! Keep up mini meals with protein and veggies so that I reduce sugar intake! Try to lose 20-30 lbs. this year since I'm turning 40 this year, now is the time. Small steps...I can do it! Also, stay positive and don't be so hard on myself. Be aware of emotional eating and if I splurge on sugar treats, I'd better really enjoy them!


My Program:
1. Exercise
2. Lots of water
3, More veggies and protein throughout the day
4. Eat less sugar
5. Stay connected with positive people and people who make me laugh

    Hey Kelly. Thanks for leaving a comment on my page recently. I appreciate you think something I said to you sounded smart - I'm more happy that it helped you and was what you needed to hear.

    Here's one little suggestion that is working for me. I set my own personal spark goal to "Be kind to myself in the mirror every day." It's working because a) I deserve it, and b) I'm obsessive about getting points on spark people!

    Maybe you could try it. Whatever you decide to do, be gentle and be kind to you!
