Happiness Is Key In My Life
Have been away from SparkPeople for about 2 years. During that time I moved to another state, had health issues, and supported my husband who had stage 4 cancer. He fought hard and is now a cancer survivor. I am an emotional eater and my poison is sweets. I gained lots of weight as I ate but didn’t exercise. It’s time to get back to practicing healthy habits and taking care of me a little of each day.

Goals
1. Use portion control
2. Increase movement
3. Talk positively to myself at least one time a day
4. Establish a regular wake/sleep routine
5. Do 10+ minutes of exercise daily — stairs, walk, cleaning, PT
6. Drink lots of water
7. Continue to trust my God to help me get through the hard parts
8. Ultimate goal is to lose about 95 pounds.
I am a retired registered nurse. Forced to retire due to a back injury. I'm a walking orthopedic miracle — metal rods, joints, etc. I don't heal easily or quickly. After the back injury, I fought hard for almost 3 years to get the mobility I have.
Hubby learned to cook when I couldn't physically do anything but it was mostly frozen meals. We are getting away from that type of food as much as we can. I can't stand over a stove all day so we are having fun cooking together. I love fresh food with lots of flavors, especially southern and midwestern foods. No fancy ingredients or difficult recipes.
Of course, I have metabolic syndrome, plus some more conditions, and take medications that interfere with weight loss. I've tried losing weight for so long but kept slipping back.
I don't want a diet. I want healthy practices to become a way of life and not a short-term solution. I am changing my emotional relationship with food. It's not my friend. My ultimate goal - I really just want to drop some medications, be healthier, and hope to increase mobility while decreasing chronic pain.
I am blessed as I have a loving husband who treats me like a queen. He really does. Our children and 6 grandkids enjoy our company so we love spending time with them. God has blessed us with a close-knit family and I am forever grateful for that.
I vary in my activities depending on pain issues. I enjoy puzzles of all kinds from hidden objects, riddles, jigsaw, to word games. I crochet at times, want to start quilting again, read, watch a lot of TV (nothing else to do when I can't get around), and surf the internet. I play on the couch with my dogs.
We have 3 mini Dachshunds and a German Shepherd. They are a lot of fun.
We have lived and traveled across the USA and in Europe so have wonderful memories of crazy times and daredevil activities as I liked danger when I was younger. Miss my disco days. My husband and I have always had great philosophical discussions. We are interested in world issues, politics, nature, and are still dating each other.
I utilize Apple computer software MacGourmet Deluxe to store recipes, meal plans and to create shopping lists. It also has nutritional counts. Anyone else use that software on a Mac? I haven't been using it for a long spell. Just not interested in thinking of food every day.
I welcome everyone to be friends with me. This is a tough journey to do alone. I used to spend most of my day on Spark but really need to just work on making menus and getting in some exercise. I will check into SparkPeople often to see how everyone is doing.
