I am 68 years old, a mom of three amazing grown boys, two daughter-in-laws, and one girlfriend, a grandmother of an 9 year old granddaughter, a 7 year old grandson, a 2 yr old grandson, a 5 month old granddaughter and a 22 yr. old step grandson, a wife of 48 years, a passionate & retired special education teacher of 36 years, and a devoted sister, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, niece, and friend. In July of 2010, I completed the San Francisco 1/2 Marathon with some dear friends. I completed the HM in Palm Springs in Feb. 2012. I wasn't speedy, but I bettered my time from my HM in San Francisco. My goal is to remain healthy, maintain a healthy weight, and continue a happy, spontaneous, nutritious, and active lifestyle by continuing to walk/jog regularly, practice yoga at a studio and at home, swim in the summer, and play with my grand kids.
I live in Southern California in an old but growing community located in a valley below the San Bernardino mountains on the edge of the lower desert, west of Palm Springs. My husband and I have lived and raised our boys in our current home (previously his grandparents retirement home) for 45 years.

My Goals:
Now that I understand the Spark program more completely I can set better goals:
*I will exercise at least 5 days a week.
*I will drink 8 glasses of water each day.
*I will walk/jog 4-5 times per week.
I will practice yoga at the studio 3-5 times per week.
*I will track my walk/jog miles and exercise minutes daily.
*I will track my food and nutrients periodically to stay on track.
*I will read inspirational meditations and pray each morning.....no excuses....positive outlook.
*I will stay active, productive, and engaged in life every day.
*I will show GRATITUDE in my thoughts and actions.

My Program:
I am diving full speed into the Spark program and determined not to get discouraged or deterred from my goals.

Personal Information:
I have had many personal hurdles to overcome in my life. I have successfully overcome them with the help of God, a supportive husband, three wonderful sons, several very important biological family members, and amazing friends. I continue to live a blessed life one moment at a time. I expect to have many more hurdles in the future and feel prepared to meet the challenges.

Other Information:
I had two heart attacks in 1989 & 1991. I am in remission from an autoimmune disease called Sweet's Syndrome. I had a complete hip replacement in 2006. I had cataracts in both eyes, lenses replaced in 2008. I was diagnosed with chronic kidney stones in 2013. The symptoms are better this past year.
My jogging/walking began in 2010. I started practicing yoga regularly in 2014. In 2016 I was diagnosed with another autoimmune disease, severe ulcerative colitis. I am now in remission from this one too! Anything is possible at any age!!!

A crucial aspect of my spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical health is that I am a successfully recovering alcoholic of 18 1/2 years. I hope to share my experience, strength, and hope for a better life with others.

Love your comment that schools are to provide jobs for some adults. How true!!! If I could have just taught kids I would have never retired. I did have lots of contact with parents (part of the preschool program) but, except for a handful, they didn't cause me a lot of trouble. (although there were some....) It was the central office, the budget, the administrators that had no idea what our program, children, and families were about that finally did me in. Hang in there! Staying focused on the kids is the only way to survive. You do make a major difference in those lives!!!
I'm doing OK. Trying to fight off a cold so I feel Yucky today but hopefully I will win and feel better tomorrow. At least have a bit more energy! My daughter and her family are moving back down here (YAY) but that means I am spending much time going back and forth to PA to help as much as I can. They will be spending a lot of time here in the next couple of months while house hunting. Love having them here but those grandbabies wear me out!
