I'm 70, and still working on taking charge of my life. When I joined SparkPeople, my main goal was to lose weight, but that's gradually changed into something much more dynamic. In general, I'm eating more healthfully, doing some kind of exercise daily, and working toward my goals. I like to say I anticipate at least 25 more years, and with SparkPeople's help, they will be good years!

My Goals:
While the underlying goal is to lose weight, the goals that will allow me to achieve it are to develop and maintain habits that will lead to a healthy lifestyle. The weight loss should occur without my giving it much thought.

My Program:
For now, I am doing the following:

1. Tracking everything I eat on the Nutrition Page.

2. Getting the daily amount of fluids (but I still love my coffee, so I try to drink more water than coffee each day).

3. Tracking my cardio and strength training. I'm doing 30-40 minutes of various types of cardio per day and trying to do some kind of strength training at least 3 times per week.

Personal Information:
I'm Lou, currently from Vancouver, WA, originally from central Illinois via 7 years in the Bay Area of California. I'm 70, and recently lost my husband Larry, after almost 45 years of marriage. I have no children, but I currently have 2 spoiled cats.

Other Information:
Although I maintained a weight of about 163 most of my adult life, in 1993 I was diagnosed with sarcoidosis. I was on prednisone off and on over the next 6 years, gaining weight each time, but never managing to lose it before the next time. In 2007, I had to go back on prednisone and gained again, though I lost that weight fairly quickly.

With an advanced degree in English, I would never have anticipated becoming a technical writer, but that's what I did for 20 years before retiring in 2005.

Larry & I got active with a local rose society in 1986, and I edited the society newsletter for 12 years and the newsletter for the PNW District of the American Rose Society for 6 years. I am an ARS Consulting Rosarian, and our shared love of roses deeply affected our lives.

emoticon and thank you for your comments on the team leader thread I started about team spins. I thought you had some great ideas, and I agree, SP does listen to us (sometimes) and can change things for the better.

Nice to "meet" you emoticon I wish you joy and success on your journey!

Thanks for the get well wishes. I did get to my chiropractor and am currently icing my back. I am going to take things slow and keep my fingers crossed that he was able to get things back where they need to be. I like the idea of the chair/heat massager. Maybe Santa will bring me one!

Hafa adai! I was going through my Friends and checking for those active with SP. When I see the Status Update on someone is more than 400 days I check to see if there is any other indication that the person is active. Your Current Status indicates you have not changed it for 1234 days!

Since you are my Vancouver contact and I still want to see the statue I do not want to loose contact.

Hi, I just wanted to let you know I appreciated your comment on the leader team about not booting off old teams such as medical teams for being inactive for over a month. I am so glad the vertigo team was there for me when I needed it. But it stays pretty quiet too until a newbie shows up.

We are practically neighbors. I live across the River in Columbia County. I was active in a Cowlitz county team for awhile when I lived closer to Longview. We hiked the lake a couple times a month.
