My name is Karen, I'm 71 years old, and I'm DONE being the fat girl! My highest weight ever was 250 lbs. I started my Spark journey in Oct. 2010 at 230 lbs and lost 80 more lbs down to 150. Gained a few of those back to 158. Reached my goal weight of 138 in May 2020. So thankful to have found SparkPeople, not just for the weight loss, but for the awesome friends I've made here and their support.
12/2020 Update - In June 2020 I was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. So far ...

12/2020 Update - In June 2020 I was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. So far I've had 7 rounds of chemo and will be having a complete hysterectomy on 12/28 and most likely more chemo after that. I'm doing well so far - latest CT scan and bloodwork show that the chemo is working. Still a ways to go but I'm determined to beat this!

My Goals:
A permanent lifestyle change with more fruits and veggies, more activity, less junk food. Moderation, NOT deprivation!
My Program:
1000 to 1300 calories a day. Walk 2 to 3 miles outdoors, or indoors with a Leslie Sansone DVD, or use my recumbant exercise bike, at least 5 days a week.
I'm a FitBit Versa user. It motivates me to keep moving and reach my step goal of 7,000 steps a day.

I live in western NY, near Buffalo with my husband, our adult disabled son, and a 6-year-old housecat named St. Pat. I'm blessed with a husband of 52 years who loves me no matter what. We are enjoying his retirement since October 2014. Our daughter lives nearby with her husband and 16-year-old daughter.
I am a born-again believer in Jesus Christ.
Other Information:
A favorite pastime is crocheting. It's relaxing and helps me to keep my mind off food. I belong to a local knitting/crochet group that meets monthly. We donate the items we make to local charities. Love to do online jigsaw puzzles and word puzzles.
I enjoy country music, especially the older music, and also southern gospel music.
I love to read, mostly on my Kindle tablet. My reading interests include a variety of fiction genres and depending on my mood, non-fiction historical books, and inspirational. I read 50+ books a year.
