Four surgeries in the last two years have set me back a bit. But I've turned the corner and am coming on strong.

The nine years I have been a member have been great. I have learned so much about how to improve myself, from the site itself and the other members that have become my friends. I have come to rely on the encouragement and support that I get from all. I'm grateful for what I have learned and am looking forward to finding new ways to improve myself.

Fitness Minutes: 354,018

My Goals:
I want to eat and exercise correctly every day. I want to improve myself: learn something new every day, stay in a schedule that is good for me, and help others when I can.

My Program:
I am learning more with each passing day and finding more ways to improve myself. Stress and anxiety have been my biggest problems and I've been working hard to overcome them. I sometimes let myself slack on my schedule and am always working on that.

Personal Information:
I am from Detroit. I lived in Alabama for 14 years, but came back home to help with Mom in 2010. May of 2015 brought me back to Huntsville, AL. I live with my youngest daughter and granddaughter in my oldest's daughter's house. My oldest and her husband live 3 minutes away. My email address is pattyklaver@yahoo.com

Other Information:
I love reading, arts and crafts, sports, and spending time with family and friends. I enjoy spending time on SP.
I am spending a great deal of time with Helena, my granddaughter, and loving every minute of it.

Recipe for Christmas All Year Long

Take a heap of child-like wonder
    That opens up our eyes
To the unexpected gifts in life—
    Each day a sweet surprise.

    Mix in fond appreciation
    For the people whom we know;
    Like festive Christmas candles,
Each one has a special glow.

Add some giggles and some laughter,
    A dash of Christmas food,
(Amazing how a piece of pie
    Improves our attitude!)

    Stir it all with human kindness;
Wrap it up in love and peace,
    Decorate with optimism, and
    Our joy will never cease.

If we use this healthy recipe,
    We know we will remember
To be in the Christmas spirit,
    Even when it's not December.
Have a wonderful and bless day.

    I'm Thankful for You

    Thanksgiving is the appointed time
for focusing on the good in our lives.
    In each of our days,
    we can find small blessings,
but too often we overlook them,
choosing instead to spend our time
    paying attention to problems.
    We give our energy
to those who cause us trouble
instead of those who bring peace.
    Starting now,
    let's be on the lookout
for the bits of pleasure in each hour,
    and appreciate the people who
bring love and light to everyone
who is blessed to know them.
You are one of those people.
    On Thanksgiving,
    I'm thankful for you.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

Patty thank you so much for your kind comment on my blog. I consider you one of my closest friends on Spark and admire you so much.
You suffer so much but don't let it keep you down. You keep going.
I use a walker as my balance is not too good. I cannot carry a pillow.
What hurt worst was when I was lying on that belt like bed for the cat scan. I asked for an extra pillow for my head but the scanner wouldn't work right. I told the tech that I had broken a vertebrae and he put a wedge under my knees. This helped a lot. The girl didn't seem to care or maybe just didn't know what to do.
I broke my T-9 and they were going to do a simple surgery but he said my osteoporosis was too bad and he was afraid he would damage other vertebrae.

Your post actually reminded me of something I had been considering and then forgot about. I was thinking about trying compression sleeves for my calves, and when you mentioned the support socks, it reminded me to try them. I went and bought a pair of athletic compression sleeves. Alas, they didn't help. Thank you for reminding me to try them, though... one thing to mark of the list of possibilities I guess!

Hope you're having a great Friday!

Be Grateful for All of Life

With gratitude, all life appears as a blessing - without gratitude, all of life is perceived as a burden. Avoid the tendency to compare your life with the lives of others, with your idealized hopes for life, and with your own life when you were younger. Every moment of your life is a gift -- not something you are "entitled to" or something you "deserve." Practice zero-based gratitude. Zero-based gratitude is being grateful for everything in your life -- grateful that you woke up this morning, grateful that you have enough food to eat, grateful that you can walk and breathe and see.
have a wonderful and awesome day.
