Hi! I was on about 9 years ago, but became a little discouraged and very sidetracked. 6 1/2 years ago, when my doctor advised me that my heart attack risk was high, I decided, "That's it." It's time to do something now." At first, I tried to do it on my own but felt I needed the accountability of tracking my food and exercise to ensure I was doing enough. Since then, it has taken off. I have two friends (a married couple) who "reintroduced" me to and gave me some pointers on how to use it. It's going very well now. I have been "at goal" for 3 years now. Unfortunately, I did inherit my dad's heart problems, and I will be having heart surgery in two weeks. Since I lost so much weight, that prevented me from having blocked arteries. I'm happy to say I don't need bypasses. I'm having the aortic valve replaced. The surgery won't be as invasive as it might have been otherwise. It was discouraging, at first, to find out I still have heart problems, but they are genetic and not the result of my previous unhealthy lifestyle of eating and being so sedentary.

My Goals:
My goals are to keep my BMI in a healthier range and keep my blood levels and blood pressure in the normal range.

My Program:
I am still tracking my food and exercise here on Spark People. I am eating less, but healthier, food now. Also, I am keeping my blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol, and triglycerides well within the normal range.

Personal Information:
I am married, a mom, a pastor's wife, a substitute teacher. I love to read, listen to, and play, music, scrapbooking, and genealogy. I also had an aortic valve replaced (via open-heart surgery) a year ago.

Other Information:
I am also a member and committee chair (America 250!) in the Daughters of the American Revolution.
