I saw mentioned on another site. Not much was said about it, just that this person had joined for weight loss. I decided to take a look and I am so glad that I did.

I joined SparkPeople January 3, 2008. I have never actually been on a diet or tried to exercise. I had turned into a couch potato years ago and had no stamina at all. I would think about losing weight. My diet was to cut back on my foods and walk for about 5 minutes. This would last 1 or 2 days tops before I would give up.

I still find it hard to believe that I am still here on May 31, 2008! I attribute my success to all the wonderful friends I have found here on SparkPeople. I am learning so much, gaining my health back, losing weight and making close friends.

Well, I fell back into old habits and all of the 40 pounds that I had lost back. I am having to relearn all the GOOD habits for a healthy life, but I WILL do it.

I am back again as of March 9, 2012...and I feel strong this time.

Fitness Minutes: 30,082

My Goals:
To get healthy.

To lose weight.

To have more energy.

My Program:
After 53 years, I figured it is time I learned what exactly is a healthy diet. I stopped smoking June 13, 2005 and I want to be healthy. I am trying to eat/drink the right amount of water, right amount of calories, right amount of carbs, right amount of fat, right amount of protein, and the right amount of fiber. I have also slowly began to move instead of sit or lay down all the time. I am taking baby steps and trying to increase weekly.

Well...I am 55 now and having to relearn everything I learned last year.....

Married 37 years (will be 38 years on 06/30/10).

I have 2 adult children ( son and daughter) .

    This is a brand new week and I'm hoping to make good use of it by making good food choices! Its been a rough week and my DH has been doing the cooking for me, but I need to lay off the comfort food and get back into 'the groove'! Being unable to do anything AND eating comfort food is a bad combination! Now is when I really NEED to watch my weight closer.'s a brand new week!

    Here's an article I read that I thought I'd share with you. We all pretty much know this, but I figure sometimes repetition can be a good thing!

    Eating a healthy, balanced diet will make it easier for your body to burn fat and prevent the food you eat from being stored as fat. Whole, minimally processed foods and nutritionally-balanced meals are better than meals that are high in refined sugars, sodium, and/or processed grains. It's much harder for your body to turn lean protein, fruits, veggies and whole grains into fat than it is to turn sugar and refined foods into fat

    Isn't it funny (not really) about how so many fast food industries in our country seem more concerned about making money than making people healthy? Sad isn't it?
    I just read this article:
