It has actually been several years since I have updated my sparkpage. A lot has happened in those several years - in addition to weight gain....

I successfully defended my Ph.D thesis a few years ago and have been teaching at a University about an hour from my family which is nice because I was a several hour plane ride away from them during graduate school.
In addition, I met my now husband about 5 months after arriving back "home" he is absolutely wonderful.

About 8 months ago (January 2015) I decided I was fed up with my clothes feeling too tight when I got an email from our list serve about "weight watchers at work" - I was intrigued. So I went to the meeting to find out more about it. I know several people who have had success and this could be one more piece in my arsenal.

Well, the work group didn't work, but I still wanted to try it out so I signed up a local WW. I started going to meetings, eating better, tracking etc. It also helped that I had just received a fitbit for Christmas.

Since then I have lost over 30 pounds in just shy of 9 months. My clothes are fitting so much better but I have a long way to go. I have found that going to a weekly meeting and checking in with an actual group has made me feel more accountable. Plus while I really enjoy reading and chatting online with some of the members at Sparkpeople, its nice to see some motivational people in real life as well.

So now I'm hoping to make choices that lead me down (and have lead me down!) the right path and set me up for a life of (mostly) good habits - eating, moving etc. I just need to remember this isn't a quick fix, but a rewarding journey.

Above all I need to love myself and remind myself I'm human - that means I'm not perfect and it's not about perfection, it's about progress.

My Goals:
To achieve a healthy BMI.

Also, fit into a single size pants - no more double digits!

Be able to run a marathon!

Be able to climb Machu Pichu!

My Program:
I do 60 minutes of cardio almost every weekday to start off my day.

I do BodyPump twice a week as well as a core strength training class for half an hour.

I discovered WeightWatchers Points system - I love it! It's been really a great system for me. I use to be very upset when I couldn't count every calorie, but I'm much more chill now.

Personal Information:
I absolutely LOVE and require music when I workout.

I am now a professor at a University close to my family which is very exciting for me. I met my now husband in the area as well.

In the summers I keep busy helping my family out with their sound and stage production company. I'm on the (literal) road a lot in the summers but I get to see a lot of cool places - plus the hauling of equipment doubles as extra strength training!

Other Information:
My top 3 favorite books are:
Brave New World
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
One Hundred Years of Solitude.

I love pretty much any satirical movie.

    Hey Cassidy - I just joined Sparkpeople in June, like you. Your studies in biochemistry intrigue me....I've been running across info about studies that seem to indicate that excessive cardio (and excessive might not be all that much) triggers "emergency" hormones - like we are sending ourselves a signal that we are running or fighting for our lives; and that increases fat storage, and appetite and generally works against weight loss. Have you seen anything about any of this?
