I've been dabbling in SparkPeople for years now--checking in, checking out--enjoying reading the articles, blogs, information provided on the site but never committing myself. I think when I joined SP, I was a 'whopping' 150-ish pounds and feeling overwhelmed and overweight. 3 pregnancies and many life events later, 150 would be a welcome number to see again!

So, what are my reasons for getting serious about my weight finally? They're layered. I'm fortunate not to have, nor to have had any major health issues and that's one of the main reasons. Apart from my knees which lived a harder life in my healthier days, my body functions well and does what I want it to do. No diabetes, no high blood pressure, etc. I'm disease/illness free. I'm lucky. I want to stay lucky, but I think that luck is only a small part of it and self-care is larger part of it. I can't control my luck, but I can control my self-care and I haven't been. I spent time last summer with family, several of whom have some serious health issues now, and I don't want to see myself in a few years suffering from and living with the same issues.
Another reason is that my kids are great, healthy, active bodies and I do get out and do things with them, but not as much running about as I would like to, nor as much as they would like me too, I imagine.I get too winded too quickly.

What are my goals?
• Listen to my hunger and not stress eat or eat in secret. I do both. I need to stop consuming the foods that bring nothing to my body nutritionally, nor in terms of pleasure. Those are the ones I stuff in myself because I’m under pressure or bored. Moderation and not indulgence: conscientiousness. I think that will be hard to train as I sometimes find that I’ve consumed something and didn’t even realize that I was eating—and certainly not how much of it I had until I either feel so sick to my stomach or see the packaging at my side.
• The weight one is to lose between 50-60 pounds. I can’t say exactly as I want to see how my body feels when I get closer to that range. At least 45 and who knows, maybe 65, but that will be in accordance with what my body is saying.
• I want to get stronger. I’ve become saggy (or droopy maybe is a better word) with no muscle tone nor definition. I want to see muscle definition in my arms, back, legs, stomach.
