Getting Healthy ... Feeling Stronger
Initially, I started loosing weight because my son was fast approaching the rank of Eagle Scout. I had put on over 60 pounds since I retired from the AF and looked AWFUL! I knew there would be lots of pictures taken at my son's Eagle Court of Honor and I was determined not to be fat in the pictures. I set a goal to slim down before the Eagle Court of Honor, and to do it in a healthy way. I lost 65 pounds by the ECofH and have lost another 27 pounds since then for a total loss of 92 pounds ...
I lost 65 pounds by the ECofH and have lost another 27 pounds since then for a total loss of 92 pounds to date. Now, I have a new goal ... to tone and firm what is left of me. I lost my weight by changing my eating habits, but did not exercise. Now I'm playing catch up, trying to tighten up. I've started a low impact exercise program and hope to work my way up to something more taxing. If I don't lose any more weight that is fine with me as long as a firm up and lose inches.
Update: 25JUN08 ... I have reached my revised weight goal of 130 pounds today! Now I am going to continue to exercise and eat well to maintain my success, health and new found strength and energy!
Update: 14OCT08 ... I'm still holding fast at 129 ... woohoo! I've just finished my 8 weekends off, now I won't have another weekend off for 28 weeks. I was actually a little concerned about the weekends. As much as I love the time with my family it throws my regular eating routine off. I rarely eat with my family (or do much of anything with them for that matter) because my work schedule has me working evenings. When I have weekends off during the summer months we usually spend them RVing and I let my guard down on the menu planning. But I made it through with healthy meals for all. Now it's time to switch gears and get back into my winter routine ... we've already had snow here in North Dakota .. which means going back to two walks with Leslie everyday instead of one because I won't be getting as much outdoor activity.
UPDATE: 24NOV08 ... All is going well. I've been concerned about maintenance, but I am holding my own. It's quite a change to not be trying to lose weight. After 16 months of focusing on getting the weight off I had to increase my calories to stay the same. To be honest, I prefered losing weight ... I had become comfortable with that after working at it for so long. Now comes the big challenge ... going to California to spend Christmas and my father's 90th birthday (26 Dec) with my parents, brother and his family. The idea of being in someone elses home for the holidays has me a bit concerned. I won't have the same control over what food is in the refrigerator and pantry or how it is prepared as I do when I'm at home. I am heading to California with a plan ... hope I see it through.
Update: 01DEC08 ... I have a new Spark Friend. My "niece", Shannon signed up for Spark People. She is serving our country, during a tour of duty in Iraq. She has lost 45 pounds in the 10 months she has been there and working on losing more. Shannon and I have both been working on our weight and I plan to take her shopping for new, smaller clothes when she gets back to the states. She recently extended her tour over there so won't be back until May. Woo Hoo ... a May shopping spree!

My Goals:
My primary goal is to tighten up and get rid of the flab left after my weight loss.
My secondary goal is to establish an exercise program I can stick with longterm.
My Program:
My program has two parts: exercising and eating. At this point my exercise program revolves around walking with Leslie Sansone. I add on a little something extra here and there, usually driven by a suggestion I found on SP. My eating program is based on the nutrisystem weightloss program. I have been eating their food since Feb '07 and it has worked well for me ... I lost 82 pounds in 10 months. These days I'm adding other entrees to my meal plans, but still eat nutrisystem meals several times a week.
