Like most SparkPeople, I've struggled with my weight all my life. I've "gotten serious" about it several times, but the most I've ever lost is 30 pounds -- then put it right back on after I gave up, plus 5 or 10. After watching my closest friend lose the last 100 pounds (of 150 pounds total) on Weight Watchers, I knew it was time to "get serious" for real. But I knew WW was going to be too complicated for me to stick with.

That's why I love SparkPeople. I lost about 25 pounds with SP a couple of years ago, then gave up because things were so stressful at work, in graduate school, and in my personal life. Needless to say, I put it all back on. But SP makes it easy to come back. Even on days when I don't track my nutrition till evening (or at all!), I can easily count calories and fat in my head -- no memorizing Points or converting nutrition labels to Points.

I'm almost 35 years old, and I realize that weight loss will only get harder with each passing year. It's time to get down to business and make changes that I can live with permanently. Others have done this; so can I! So can we all.

Fitness Minutes: 63

My Goals:
Lose weight in order to look good and avoid heart disease and diabetes, both of which are very common in my family.


My Program:
Heart Healthy diet, 2 lbs./week (1200-1550 calories).

I'm logging everything I eat, with the exception of certain raw veggies that I don't bother to count because they're so low-cal.

Proud to have logged everything faithfully for ONE MONTH! I've only fallen off the wagon a few times. I've dramatically reduced the amount of caffeine I drink, and decadent sweets are restricted to once every week or two.

Working on drinking enough water and eating the right balance of foods to keep my digestive system in good working order.



Personal Information:
I am teaching college while I write my master's thesis. I'm also the proud mother of a precocious 12-year-old.
