Introduction Text With my birthday yesterday I am 74 years old now. I've been on Spark since September of 2012 and I'm still fighting the battle of the bulge. These last 3-1/2 years have been tough. My husband had back surgery - then cancer that went into remission - then shoulder surgery - then cancer again and then degenerative back and balance issues. Somewhere in there we also had several deaths in the family. My life continues to be one big care-taking project and I have gained 25+ pounds since starting on Spark. Female surgery 4 years ago seems to have derailed my body's ability to lose weight. Now I'm dancing around the "officially" diabetic label. That just has to go. Still, SparkPeople has been my lifeline to sanity, connecting me to wonderful people who have supported me through these difficult times. I also know where to find help and encouragement towards renewing my self-care efforts. So having just had another birthday, I'm still here, still trying to stay healthy. It feels as though it's really time for a breakthrough, time to take back some control of my own life, even if only for a few minutes a day.

My goals are simple: get my weight down about 25 pounds and my clothes down about 2 clothing sizes. My A1C has crept up to where my doctor and I are trying to find a medication to help that will not upset my temperamental intestinal tract; I want to be able to get off that and it seems the weight loss is the key.

I will start again to get onto SP everyday and to track my calories when I do. I will make a better effort to get in some sort of exercise every day, whether it is "official" exercise or work out in the yard.

I retired from the paid workforce to retired status 6 years ago - it hardly seems possible it's been that long.

I am deeply immersed in a wide variety of metaphysical activities and researching family histories. I welcome correspondence with those who share any of these unconventional interests.
