Part Time Sparker for awhile longer!

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Hello Spark Friends! I'm still not back full time, reading the articles, posting on all my teams, taking polls etc. I fell the first Friday of my Spark Break and really hurt my left knee and thigh. Since I am a youngster, it may take awhile before I'm back getting much cardio in. Meanwhile, my DH is looking for a full Hockey Goalies uniform, complete with helmet and face mask, for me to wear if I insist on walking on the sidewalks and continue doing stress tests on the cement! I did mention that the ice skate's the goalie wears wouldn't do well on sidewalks. No problem - steel toed, high topped boots like we wore when working at the mines!

I learned a great lesson the weekend I injured myself. I took the afternoon off work to get some much needed housework and baking done. I had worked that morning and was walking down to the barbershop to meet my husband when suddenly my body decided to test the cement and turn me into a rug! When we got home, DH put away the butter I had softening for cookies away and I sat in the chair with my leg up. When the family arrived on Saturday morning, the house was dusty, there was nothing for them to snack on, no lunch prepared. Was there a frown? NO! My nephew started laughing the minute he saw me and called for his wife to get a picture of his Aunt Donna with a fat leg! DH ran to the bakery for a mid morning snack and back to McDonald's for lunch. The family went to the wedding and brought me back a food tray. The next morning, the men helped me into the truck and we went to a local restaurant for breakfast. They enjoyed themselves, I was not stressed from trying to have everything perfect and it was a wonderful weekend - ice packs and all!

It has been a strange time for me. Suddenly, my theme song is "if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all!' In the midst of printing out spread sheets and reports, my printer and my computer decided the didn't want to play together any more! Talk about major stress! I would email the company - they would send directions. It wouldn't work. My phone would ring, "When can I expect the preliminary report?" This Monday while I was at work, DH went to Radio Shack and asked for an inexpensive printer. Another guy came in and said he needed one for the same reason we do. Once I was back in action, I got the giggles over the strangeness of the entire thing.

I email a company and tell them my printer will not communicate with my computer. They send me a detailed email back on steps to take to correct the problem. The very first thing the instructions say is, "NOTE! Print these instructions out as your computer will turn off and on while doing the following steps!" The other guy in Radio Shack said he got the exact same message! Once we started laughing at the canned responses the so-called computer techs send out, it eased the stress! PLUS - helped the guy out who owns the local Radio Shack!

I think the moral of my rambling here is "don't sweat the small stuff - and it's all small stuff!" The family still loves me without home baked goodies, a fancy lunch, a fancy breakfast. Laughing about the foibles of the computer industry doesn't make as many wrinkles as throwing a little temper tantrum they can't hear. It works almost as well as a Dark Chocolate Snicker - which is the first thing DH bought when I fell and hurt myself! Dark Chocolate and a Diet Pepsi don't show on our nutrition plan, but they sure do cure what ails you! LOL!

    Hi Donna,

I loved your post! And I've been sweating the small stuff! I had a nightmare worrying about remembering things. When like you I know it's not a life or death situation. We are funny how we stress ourselves over small stuff. Your leg is not small stuff though. I hope your walking again soon with no pain!
    Hugs and love,
