2009! (and a 2008 synopsis!)

Tuesday, January 06, 2009

Well, I've been incognito (for lack of a better word!) for the last couple of months. . . I'm just not a good blogger! Anyway, I always think of something I'd to mention here, but I'm never by the computer when I think of it. . . And don't take the time to blog after I get done keeping up with my threads and my tracking! Can't spend my life at the computer!

My daughter mentioned that she wanted to join a gym in November, and I took her up on it! We checked out a couple, and ended up at one in our hometown. It offers lots of classes, cardio and strength equipment. I've actually been spinning every Saturday morning, and can't believe that I get through 45 minutes of it. The first class I only did 30 min, but after 35 minutes in the second class, the teacher wisely said "One more song, you can do it!" and that was all she wrote!! I couldn't quit then!! After that, I realized the toughest part was the first 10-15 min of the class - when I didn't think my legs would hold me up to jog on the bike. (My thigh muscles killed me the day after the first class!). And it took me a little while to get coordinated doing the "jumps". A few times when getting ready to go, I've thought that I didn't have the energy, but I know my daughter will be there, so I plug along. And by the time it is over, I feel pretty good about my accomplishment! This last Saturday I think I was actually looking forward to going! (whoa - who said that??!) I still watch the clock, and my feet get a little crampy with so much pressure on them at different times (I feel like I need more arch support!), but I love the calories burned after a session.

Otherwise, at the gym, I use the elliptical - 45-60 min a time, and I love it! Then we do our weight lifting which takes 30-45 min. DD runs on the treadmill, but I don't use it since I have one at home that I use in the mornings before work. Sometimes if I have extra time, I ride their stationary bike for awhile for something different. (Even though, now that it's winter, I either ride the bike or walk the treadmill at work at lunchtime - instead of walking the bike path outside)

We joined for 6 months - which takes us right up to wedding time!! They even have a 12 week challenge going on starting this week that I think we're going to sign up for.

Thinking about last year, overall, I'm happy. I could have done better, but as I've said to myself so many times - THIS IS A LIFETIME THING AND NOT A DIET - so if it takes me awhile to get to my skinny, then that's what it takes! In 2007, I lost almost 50 lbs, but gained back about half of it in the last few months of the year. So my total lost for 2007 was 26. In 2008, I got back to a 51 lb overall weight loss, gained back 5 pounds in December, making my total lost for 2008 at 20. So I'm at a 46 lb overall weight loss!! One thing I do know is that those pounds are gone forever!!

I'd really like to lose about 30-35 pounds before the weddings, but I'm not sure that's realistic considering my two year sparkhistory. . . so I'll be happy just to keep plugging along, and not to lose my way!

Let's see, for inches lost in 2008 -
Neck -1
Bust - 2
Waist - 2.5
Arms - .25
Hips -2
Thighs -1.25
Calfs - .5 and .75

That's 11.75 inches this year
And a total of 53 inches lost in two years!! woohoo!!

Wow, looking at it that way brings a smile to my face! Guess it was worth sitting down here and figuring this out today!

--'Til next time!
