Arthritis Hell

Thursday, July 30, 2009

Well,

After a visit to the specialist today, I was informed that he has given joint replacements to people with knees better than mine. It is quite devastating to find out that I not only do I have arthritis, but that it is severe and will be progressive.

I have never had sore knees and have played top level sport for years.

I am in limbo not knowing what exercise I can do -as the information from the physiotherapist and the specialist conflict!!

The physio said biking was good, the specialist said I may be able to jog with patellofemoral arthritis but I should stay away from the bike and the rowing machine.

I do not know which advice to take!!

I do know I want to keep moving and stay as healthy as I can.

I tore out my knee and had surgery a year ago. All of my doctors and pts said biking. It grinds down your knees and makes them smooth so it is actually repairative. Swimming is good too.

I had to avoid biking & running when I was recovering from my knee injury. I was encouraged to swim. I hate swimming, so I just walked till it was better. Doesn't look like u will have that option.
What do u fink about swimming?
