Yep...1/2 Marathon it is!!

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Ok so I'm doing it....that's right, a 1/2 marathon!!!
I said I was thinking of doing the Army Run in Ottawa at the end of September but I didn't start training and sort of forgot about it. UNTIL my friend who just moved up there and is in the army called me and basically told me I was doing it. Now she didn't say that I had to do the 1/2 marathon but for me there was no other option really since the other race was a 5K. Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with a 5K but for me, someone who runs for distance and not speed, there was no point since I run about 8K on my normal runs.
So I did it, I signed up and paid my fee. I am officially in a 1/2 marathon in about 5 weeks (September 20th). I've picked up my training schedule and am starting it where I should be if I had been training for the 1/2 the whole time and so far it's okay. Luckily I run pretty far already so starting the training where I am is not too hard of a push for me. I'm already up to about 10K and that's doable for me. I'm not looking forward to the run I have to do on Sunday though because it's 9 miles but oh well, suck it up I guess. I REFUSE to walk AT ALL during this 1/2 marathon. I'm going to cross that finish line running or I won't be crossing it at all.
Wish me luck!!!

Good luck! I just signed up for the army run also - I am doing the 5K (I'm a newbie) and my friend is doing the half with you. It is going to be so much fun!

Good luck!! I wouldn't go so far as to say you won't cross the finish line AT ALL if you can't run the whole thing though. My DS & I 1/2 walked/ran the Disney 1/2 Marathon to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society a cpl yrs ago. I basically went from couch potato to marathoner in 6 months time! It was a wonderful bonding experience with DS & an overall fantastic fitness experience. I wouldn't have traded it for the world!!
Hope you have a great time!!

that is SO AWESOME! i'm so proud of you. wow. i'm sure you can do it, even if it feels like it'll be impossible... just ratchet up your training little by little, and believe that the adrenaline on race day will take you through :D
