The Flood of '09
Wednesday, September 23, 2009
We had a flood here in Atlanta over the weekend. The amount of rain we had was unprecedented. Areas that have no record of ever flooding were under water. The governor is saying the cost to clean up will be close to three-quarters of a Billion dollars.
My family was very lucky. We were not in an area that was under water. We didn't loose any of our belongings or any of our loved ones. We will be remembering in prayer those families who lost possessions & loved ones.
As I watch our community begin the process of cleaning up & rebuilding, I was reminded of the process I am undertaking to rebuild my life. By the time I finally got my head in the right place and started moving my life in a new direction, my body was suffering from the effects of carrying around an extra 100 pounds.
Like our community, I have to realize I'm not going to wake up tomorrow & find myself in the same place I was before the damage was done. It's going to take time and hard work to get to that place. It's gonna take a plan, learning to do things I've never done before & the help of my friends.
Atlanta will recover and rebuild herself and so will I.
