Stop whining...

Monday, March 08, 2010

Okay, today is International Women's Day so it is the perfect moment to stop whining---stop talking at all in fact---about my illness. There are better topics for conversation, and I'm so tired of hearing myself complain....
Today I have the chance to lie around and do nothing, and so my goal is to excel at that. It's not my normal style. I'm always trying to accomplish something. Even rest becomes the opportunity to read the paper or finish a book or do a load of laundry while.... But what if I make an attempt instead to accomplish nothing. Focus on breathing and feeling. Sense the air. Listen to the quiet of daffodils pushing up through the clay. Hear the rustle of spring, which is, finally, just outside the door. That will be a successful day. That will be a day far beyond trivial categories of success and failure. Sun. Breeze. Wet. Flit. Glint. Move. Change.

It is always good for the mind, body, and soul to relax and listen to the world around you, to appreciate the beauty of the earth as spring arrives, to rest from cares, to let go of worries, to just breathe and be for a time.

Hope this day helped restore some energy to you and give you peace and inner strength to face the varied tasks that were set aside as you meditated.

I went back a few entries. It's interesting when we have these challenges in our lives that they can bring other things to the fore. Even though you're much more fit than I, we seem to have similar approaches to life, and it is, indeed, a gift to learn to slow down. I have bouts with both a rheumatological disorder and fibromyalgia - these both slow me down, but I've learned mostly how to keep them at bay, and it involves lots of patience on my part. I hope you enjoyed your rest today.
