Our beagle has developed a fear of rainstorms, and whenever it rains hard, he starts to pace, begging to be let outside and then just as quickly asking to be let back in. Although he normally loves to sleep in his crate, last night he refused to go in the crate and insisted on being near the front door or in the garage or..... Finally we went to bed and left him to roam to his heart's content. Around 3 a.m. we suddenly lost power, a fact we normally take in stride, especially at that hour.
Are you familiar with the beagle's howl? It has a particular resonance in a dark house in the middle of the night. After announcing the power outage to the entire neighborhood, dear old Sparky decided to visit us and get our individual impressions of the event. He came into the bedroom and, making sure he had our close attention, jumped up on the armchair where I had left two freshly washed blouses to dry overnight. He settled in there briefly before deciding the bedding was too wet to suit him. He exited hurriedly---stage right---to investigate further developments.
Okay, so, the positive?
1. We were going to have to reset the clocks anyway so the power outage came at a perfect time.
2. We lost an hour to daylight savings time so the insomnia that resulted from our canine adventure was shorter than normal.
3. I had the perfect topic for my "one blog a day" challenge.
