I am currently in Afghanistan with the military. My plan was to lose a good amount of weight (20 pounds) while I was here, especially since I only have to worry about myself. I have no family responsibilities to deal with. I work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. After work, I work out and then have about an hour of time for personal time where I read or watch a tv show in my room before bed where I get 7-8 hours of sleep a night.
When I got here, I stopped drinking Coke and if I have any soda at all, it about twice a month and it's orange soda with no caffeine. I don't drink coffee or caffeine tea. When I stopped drinking Coke, I expected the weight to come off a lot easier/faster. I had some good success when I stopped drinking Coke about a year ago for 2 months. But I actually gained weight here so far. I am very upset by all this.
I work out a lot more here than I did at home. I workout about 4-5 days a week and about a week ago, I added weights workout after I run. I expected to at least lose a little weight by now, but I'm not having success.
The next thing to look at then is my food intake. I would love to use the nutrition tracker, but being where I am, I don't cook my own food, nor do I usually know what is in it or how it was prepared. The salad bar here is a joke (I'm at a base run by Europeans...the American bases usually have decent salad bars). The salad bar here usually has potato salad and some kind of cabbage thing and some kind of salad made with herring fish in a sauce of some sort. They will occasionally have cucumbers or beets which I will eat when offered. Sometimes they'll have soggy tomatoes and if I'm really lucky, onions. They always have potatoes cooked in a few different ways, which I would always get one of them, but I think I'm going to even stop eating those now as well.
I thought I was making good changes by exercising more and cutting out the soda. But after a month, shouldn't I see some results? Less weight..looser clothes...more energy...something?
