Back to blogging

Well, it's been over a year since my last "little update" blog and I figured it was time to start up again. I've been shy about blogging in the past, but my cousin has been keeping a healthy living blog and I think I'd like to try and do it on a more consistent basis. I'm supposed to be a writer, after all.

I'm currently on Week Three of the Springing Into Summer Challenge with the Done Girls. I think joining in on a challenge is one of the best things that I've done so far on Sparkpeople. I've now been on this site for a little over two years and have really only lost/regained/lost again about ten pounds. As much as I love Sparkpeople, I think I'm ready to be done with it.

The first week on the challenge was absolutely perfect. I did everything I should have done and lost three pounds. Imagine that. When I actually worked out and made good eating choices, I lost weight. Is it really that simple?

Apparently it isn't, because the next week completely derailed me. All of the preparation and effort that I put into the first week pretty much came to a standstill and I was completely shocked with how quickly I allowed it to happen. Sure, there were lots of excuses like my birthday, not staying at my own house (dogsitting) and company coming into town for Easter, but isn't a lifestyle change the whole point of this? I can't let little things like that derail me. Luckily I didn't post much of a gain, but it was still a week wasted.

Today I woke up with a renewed vengeance and ready to go. I committed to this challenge and need to see it through, as much for myself as for my teammates, who are really great. I went to Trader Joe's yesterday and stocked up on some good fruits and veggies, so I could make myself a great lunch today and be prepared with packed and planned food and snacks. I stayed within my calorie range and I feel full and happy. I even treated myself to a few chocolate easter eggs:)

My workout today was awesome. I got in five miles on the elliptical and felt great. Now I'm about to start some strength training while watching the beginning of the National Championship and then head to bed so I can hopefully get up to go to the gym in the morning. Here is my ambitious plan, we'll have to see how it goes:

Monday: 5 miles on the elliptical, strength training
Tuesday: 3 miles on the elliptical, evening swim and row
Wednesday: 5 miles on the elliptical, strength training
Thursday: 3 miles on the elliptical, evening swim and row
Friday: 5 miles on the elliptical, strength training
Saturday: 5-6 miles on the elliptical.

I know it seems intense...but I kind of think I can do it. Either way, here it is in print.
