Broken Hip, Pretty Bad

Sunday, April 25, 2010
I have just finally arrived back home. The incident took place one week ago (Sunday, April 18, 2010) at a roller skating rink. My DH had a very bad fall and broke his left hip; actually the femur about an inch or 1 1/2 inches below the femur. I was at home and received a call from him at the emergency room at the local hospital NINETY MINUTES from our home! The following is what I wrote to focus on the task at hand.

Sunday, April 18, 2010
As I sit in my husband's hospital room, I am reflecting on my (our) blessings of which there are many. First I need to explain my DH's reason for being in hospital....He broke his hip roller skating. Actually he broke the left femur just below the femur ball but they still refer to it as a broken hip.

Now for the Blessings:
1) I was at home when the call came.
2) DH was able to place the call himself.
3) We had a friend to drive me the 90 minutes it took to get to the hospital.
4) The hospital was 2 miles from the roller rink.
5) My DH was alert and we talked so I have the necessary details.
6) We have good primary insurance and also secondary insurance if required.
7) My friend and I went to the roller rink to get DH's car. Friend then went home.
8) Friend taking care of Penny Dog until tomorrow when Penny Dog can be boarded.
9) Surgery is tomorrow.
10) DH is resting quietly.
11) "I am woman...I am strong"

I will report later on how it goes after surgery .
Please remember us in your prayers.

Hi Rusty, I'm so sorry to read this, I hope he is on the mend by now. As you know, the end of the school year is a whirlwind and my Sparking has been sporadic. I'm trying to touch base with all my special sparkfriends! I was thinking strongly of you yesterday as I was digging through 23 years of my predecessor's school stuff in my classroom. I moved in in January and never had any time to sort and pitch. My archeological dig even turned up some materials that belonged to HER predecessor!!! Thankfully the air conditioning in the building is strong and I probably have one day left before I cover everything and lock up for 2 months. Hope you're treating yourself well and that you are progressing toward your vision of you for that reunion! My prayers to you and DH for healing! Hugs, Kim emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

It is fortunate you live so close to rehab. I am sure you will see him often. Be sure to do something nice for yourself while he is there, too. I hope he heals fast. He is lucky to have a wonderful wife like you. Take care. Will say a prayer for the two of you. emoticon

I am so sorry to heat about your husband's broken bone. Having broken my ankle last fall, I know how painful a broken bone can be. My surgery went just fine and I healed up nicely. We did have to buy side bars for the toilet so I could get on and off, and I rented a "knee scooter". I assume you will have similar expenses and adjustments to make. I even had to sleep on the couch for a month because I couldn't get up the stairs. But, we survived, and you will, too. You are a strong woman!

And thank God for good health insurance.

Some men will do anything......and I get out of helping their wives!! emoticon

He NAY need the furniture raised a little when he gets home so that there isn't a lot of pressure on the joints getting into and out of chairs and the bed. (toilet too!)

I am thinking of you, and you seem to have a very good attitude about it. After all, there isn't really anything else that can be done.

Take care and look after yourself, too!

I am praying for you and your husband. It is good he had the cell, was close to the hospital, was alert, and that you really do show to have all your ducks in a row. You are highly organized, and approaching it with calm and logic.
    Hang in there.
