Someone moved my cheese

Monday, September 06, 2010

Well I had a rythym and it was working pretty good. I was logging into spark people and keeping up with my food plan, my activities and my buddies. Then last week to my absolute horror I arrived at work to find out that spark people is now a blocked site!

I wish I could report that I handled this crisis well, but I did not. I whined and complained, I ate all the wrong things, I refused to walk, I pouted and basically acted like a spoiled rotten toddler. You can guess where that has gotten me.

I'm finished throwing a tantrum and have finally come to the realization that I've got to figure out another way to keep moving forward on my journey to good health. I very much want to make spark people a part of that journey.

I'll be working on new routines over the next several weeks. My schedule outside of work has not been very condusive to logging on, but I'm going to try to find a way to fit it in.

Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive to me over the past few years. I appreciate all the help and encouragement. Hopefully I'll get through this challenge as well.

Thank you everyone for your words of support and encouragement. I kept thinking about what Rene said about it maybe being a fluke and this morning when I got to work I tried it again and sure enough I once again have the ability to spread the spark!!! I am so happy, I've missed everybody terribly.

    Let's get Sparking!

Yes, someone needs to appeal this. Chris could maybe help as it is a health site and the social part is what is the motivator for our health getting better.

Wow, I have never tried to get on Spark at work (I work for the government). I track my breakfast and lunch (what I've packed that morning) before I leave for work and then track my dinner and after-work snack that night. I especially like to track food on the days I've exercised.

I know you can do it! Just make sure and schedule time for YOU! You're worth it! emoticon

Ouch! I'd probably would react the same way you did, if I suddenly couldn't get to SP.

Does SparkGuy know about this? Could HE appeal to your bosses?

Wow! Yeah, there is some social stuff going on, but that also means you can talk to someone and get lots of support, that is a big part or weight loss,

One of my friends works at a hospital and they blocked SP a couple weeks ago there also. They felt it was more a social networking site as opposed to a health related site and it was blocked. I think she should appeal....a hospital of all place should understand the importance of allowing people to log food and read about health topics.

In the meantime, maybe you can just jot down what you eat and log it at home once a day, or if you plan your meals out a week in advance, log all your food on the weekend for the upcoming week. I have SP on my iPad and phone so I could still access the site, but it's certainly more convenient to have full access to a computer.

I hope you can work it out.

It's hard to believe that they would block a site that would be good for your health. Oh well....it's time to take a deep breath and move on. Make a journal up and keep it with you. Jot everything down you eat and drink and then record it later on.

Do you have a smartphone? If you do, you can download a Spark application and record your food, water, fitness and a few other things.

You can do this. Don't get frustrated.

They say change is good. Change is good once we get over the surprise of it. Keeping up with spark is important to you, you will find a way to fit it in. emoticon

Oh, I so hear you -- I'm terrible about having a wrench thrown into my routine. And I tend to self-destruct in response, too! Hang in there, remember that this is just one bump in the road. Keep taking care of you, work out a new routine as much as you can! emoticon

Try appealing that to HR. It's worth a shot. I don't understand how they can block a site that promotes good health (and so lowers their insurance costs as well).

I had a bad moment last week when I tried to log in and it kept telling me that the site was forbidden. I went through all of the same withdrawals as you. But I found out later that it was just a glitch. Whew what a relief!! Hang in there! emoticon
