Well, I finally finished my tour in Afghanistan and returned home safely. I actually did end up losing 15 pounds while I was there. Oddly enough, it was after I stopped exercising and allowed myself to have one or two cokes and a chocolate treat a week that I started losing weight. Maybe I wasn't getting enough calories (the food really sucked there!) and my body held onto anything it could.
Well, that lasted about a month after I returned and I slowly started putting the weight back on. 10 pounds came back like it never left!
I then saw this program sponsored by a lady named JJ Virgin who stars in a show called Freaky Eaters on tv. It was a program to cut out all known allergens from your food and then slowly reintroduce them one at a time to see if you're allergic to anything and that might cause you to hold weight.
I did pretty well the first week, but quickly fell apart. The program is just 4 weeks, but I just couldn't give up everything I loved cold turkey! I had to give up gluten, sugar, peanuts, and dairy (including eggs). But the first week, I did lose 6 pounds. I've managed to stay there, even when cheating on the program. I know I can do better by following some of the guidelines in general, but without giving up everything. I just have to greatly reduce these things and exercise more and I'm sure I'll lose more.
So, starting again tomorrow, my goal is to give up sugar, gluten and dairy again and try to hold out for at least 2 weeks straight this time. I'm also going to try to blog here more and definitely track what I eat here on Sparkpeople!
Since I lost those 6 pounds earlier this month, I'm no longer in the overweight category, but I weigh more than I want and I carry most of my weight around my belly, which is really bad. So I must get this done!!
