Cardio exersize from a wheelchair ideas needed!

Thursday, November 18, 2010

I'm facing the first winter with the loss of my legs due to spinal-cord injuries. I have two sets of travel from a manual wheel chair of 45 and the other 60 minutes. There are no local swimming pools or malls to take the chair indoors and race. I figure if I raced in a mall they would kick me out any way.
As the cold and ice come I'm searching for a way to get my heart pumping indoors. Any and all suggestions would be great! emoticon

I absolutely appreciate the pointers from one and all. I feel kinda dumb for not using the search to get more information. I have seen a few exercises and am mainly after a way to sustain my heart rate up to get the cardio minutes I get while wheeling around the streets.

There are lots of exercises that can be done while sitting. Google "chair exercises"

There is a site called Collagevideo.com that has lots of workout videos, they even have short previews. They have some for "seated & sitting".

(Found this by using the toolbar on the left, clicking "Specialty Videos" then "seated exercise".

I don't have any information for you but maybe you could communicate with SafetySue as she is also in a wheelchair. You can search for her page and drop her a note. I'm sure she would be glad to share her exercises with you. Good luck!
