I'm a wus on a mission

I'm trying something new: a SP Virtual 5K.
I like having both the walking & jogging/running options. I'm a flabby mess right now, so I'm walking my way through 49 so I can run when I hit 50 next year.
I've never 'run' (or even walked) through a 5K - builiding up to 3.1 miles of walking in the SP Training Program over a period of 5 weeks doesn't seem intimidating - it seems 'do-able' - so I entered.
I needed a concrete goal & was having a hard time creating one - so many distractions & other priorities...
Even when I was active duty (which was the best of my health in my 20s) PT was only 2 - 2.5 miles at a time. Since then I've hiked over 4 miles in trails with scouts & visiting Disneyland with the kids sure seemed like a 5K... lol.
I've never envisioned myself as a runner let alone as a 5K participant - but I've been looking around, watching the SP coaches, reading other blogs - and everyone has one common feature: we're 'regular' people, not super atheletes or Olympic heroes.
I'm excited to do something I've never done before - it's refreshing that at 49 I'm still excited, able, and willing to try new things. I like it. I have a real goal to put on my webpage...
yeah me! Spark on!
