Happily back on track

Thursday, April 21, 2011

I missed writing my three-month progress report because I haven't made any progress in the first quarter of 2011. I have done a great job of staying about the same (up and down the same few pounds) but not any additional weight loss. Now it is well into April and I figured I had to find a way to reconnect with my progress. As it turns out, a simple task was the key.

My Weight Watcher leader, Donna, restarted the concept of the "group log" using a three-month tracker. I decided to step up for week two of the log. The purpose of the log is to write down everything, as best you can, and bring it back the next week. How did this help, considering I have been logging my food on SparkPeople every day without fail. I forced myself to be completely honest about my point consumption. Logging on Spark, I have everything logged but do not go the extra step to calculate the points. Last week I weighed and measured all my food, just like I always do. I vowed to concentrate on the filling foods but did not exclude any items from my plan. I logged everything in both places but I used to "group log" to share some of my favorite recipes and products in a way to be helpful to the next person to take the group log. I cooked my favorite Rachael Ray Cheesy Meatballs in Marinara, Beef Tagine with Butternut Squash from Cooking Light as well as my family recipe for Zucchini Squash, Tomato and Onions. I mentioned my absolute favorite yogurt brand, Archer Farms from Target. I made polenta for the first time and ended up having it in several different ways. I was completely honest down to counting the tortilla chips I ate at a Mexican restaurant for my DD's 17th birthday and the 1 1/2 ounces of cake I ate in celebration. There was even a margarita and a few glasses of wine dispersed through the week. I exercised by walking and gardening. I knew I had accounted for everything and had only about 6.5 Points left at the close of the day on Tuesday.
My weigh in is on Wednesday and I do a "first thing in the morning" weight in as few clothes as possible and then my official weigh in at WW at noon. My first weight showed a loss of 2.8 pounds and a new low weight since beginning with Spark over 3 years ago. My official weigh in under a more clothed circumstance showed my weight down 2.6. In one week I outdid my weight loss for the entire first quarter!
My plan for this week is to make sure to calculate and track all my points. No guessing or estimating allowed and look forward to another great week!
