Life Changing New Firsts!!

April 30 2011 My friend Sarah and I left our families and headed out on a trip to Vancouver to run in the BMO Vancouver half marathon. It was a first for me but Sarah has several under her belt. It was our first trip together as well as a first in being away from children and husbands at the same time. Poor Sarah she had no idea that I am a crazy shopaholic but I hope that she still had some fun....I finally rubbed off on her and she bought a beautiful hand bag so maybe next year she will be the over spender and not me...my husband would probably be happier with me if this had been the case for this year. We picked up our race kits and did some shopping as well as booked my first tattoo appointment. We had a fun dinner and only one glass of wine..the wine was so yummy that we really wanted two but we restrained ourselves. We got back to the hotel..readied ourselves for race day and went to bed. I did not sleep most of the night...should have had more wine! Up every hour and 5:30 am came really soon. We headed out for the run by 6:30 and did a light run to the start line. Potty line too long so we lined up. So many people we could only get to the 2 30 pace bunnies so we would be on our own. I wished her luck and we took off! Was such a beautiful day and the run was amazing. I probably pounded down the hill a little to fast but I felt good and went with it. I finished off strong and was alright with my time. I ended up running 13.33 miles and did it in 2 hours 15 minutes and 22 seconds. For my first time I am alright with those numbers and can definitely improve from there. After the run I received my medal and Sarah and I took our hurtin bodies to the hotel to get cleaned up and then we went for a nice lunch with some friends from Van. At 16:45 I showed up at the shop to get my tattoo. I have been preparing for this for almost a year. Up until last year I had never wanted a tattoo but last year I had some huge struggles with anxiety and decided that I wanted to always have a reminder from God even when I cannot feel his presence. I really struggled over which verse to get and then realized that the verse is quite long so I settled for the scripture reference number and decided that then I could get both of my verses. These verses are a constant reminder to me of God and what he has done and can do in my life! I almost passed out part way through the first tattoo and was freaking out that my body wouldn't let me finish...but the artist was patient and said that he had seen it all before. He was right and I made it. Tattoos are painful but you can definitely make it through if you want it. I already have what I want next...although I might look like some sort of walking scripture freak. I just know that my faith won't change so I will never have any regrets! The tattoos were a awesome experience although I went to dinner looking like I had slit my wrists. We had a amazing Indian dinner with wine!!! Oh yeah and some more friends from Van. We went down to Sunset Beach and listened to the beautiful sounds of the waves rolling in...while we watched some girl pee by her friend. Good times.hahaha!!! Bedtime and still no sleep...those crazy party animals on Davies. The next day was some serious rain but we got to use those cute little umbrella racks in the entrance of each store so at least that was fun. The shopaholic really appeared on this day. I didn't want to stop. We probably just should have went to Fast Five.heehee! Our flight left Vancouver at 1700 and was going along fine until our plane was struck by lightening. There was a huge explosion sound under where we were sitting and then light through or around the cab of the plane. Some screaming ensued and some very panicked faces. My only thoughts were Oh **** I can't believe that I am actually going to die on this plane. I cannot believe how calm I was..My friend couldn't believe that I was more scared of pooping my pants then of dying in a plane crash. I think that God had given me a peace and since I couldn't get off the plane I might as well be okay with this. Within a very short amount of time we figured out that it was just lightening. When we landed the pilot came on and told us that it was a fun light show...then when we got inside we heard them announce that the flight from PG to Van was canceled...hmmm our plane definitely had to be checked out. All in all this entire weekend was a amazing experience...
My First trip away from my family ever.
My First Half Marathon
My First and second tattoo
My First brush with death from lightening
I loved every second of it. I had no anxiety and would love to do it again right now if I could. Thank you Sarah for being part of this amazing journey. It would not have been the same without you!!!!!!! I am hoping next year we could do the same...we should totally leave the kids and husbands at home. Please!!!!! Say yes! You know it will be fun!
