OMG! True friends see friends through rose-tinted glasses.

Losing weight has its high points and low points at times, and sometimes even our friends do not realize just how far you've come because they wear the "rose-tinted glasses" of love and friendship. It is not until they are slapped in the face with reality that they take those glasses off and see the flaws and imperfections of their friends.
Last night, my friend Allison was preparing for an upcoming trip to London to celebrate one of her British friends 60th birthday. As a last minute gift, she decided to buy a crystal frame and place a couple pictures that were taken from the roof of my building overlooking the White House, Washington Monument, etc. and the two of them together as well as one of her daughter and niece.
Reality hit home when she saw a picture of the two of us together, dressed to the nines, and before I had lost over 120 pounds. She says she doesn't ever recall me being that big. And, that is is most likely because she saw me at every phase in the weight loss. Today, we wear the same size, although she is about 3 inches shorter than me.
Yes ... Allison finally took off her rose-tinted glasses and saw me for the first time ... thin. The love and friendship are still there ... yet her next comment nearly floored me. She said, "I'm sorry."
At first I didn't understand why she was apologizing, but then I realized that I matter to her and because of that, she felt she had failed me in some way for not pushing me to lose the weight.
Frankly, I told her that she was there for me every step of the way and that she loved me no matter what my weight was/is. There is nothing more special than a friend who can look past the flaws and imperfections to the person within.
