Saturday, October 01, 2011

WARNING: LOTS of pictures!!!

Hello dear Sparkfriends!

This morning, I met AYABA18, who is currently in Paris, and we had a fantastic time, talking about all kinds of things (including zumba... and, ok, food too!) and laughing a lot!

Our walk took us through a very elegant part of Paris, Rive Gauche between the Seine and Saint-Germain-des-Prés. It started near the Pont des Arts, which goes from the Louvre to the Institut de France:

On the Pont des Arts we met a painter...

We were so lucky it was a gorgeous day! Look at the view from the Pont des Arts on the Pont Neuf and Ile de la Cité:

The area we visited is well-known for its numerous art galleries. There are all kinds - among others...

Primitive African art...

contemporary paintings...

and sculptures...

On the way, we also saw part of the old 'wall of Paris' built to protect the city in 1200 (it was fun to look for it, well hidden in the 2nd level of an underground parking!)...

Back in the street again, the shop opposite had lots of bold vintage jewelry which caught our attention:

And then around Rue de Seine and rue de Buci, lots of beautiful fresh products...

And flowers...

... in lovely shops (this one was rue des Saints-Pères, I thought it was so pretty!)...

We saw many lovely streets and squares...

Where famous people used to live, like the painter Eugène Delacroix (rue de Furstemberg):

... French author Jean Racine (rue Visconti):

... or Irish writer Oscar Wilde (rue des Beaux-Arts):

Oh and we also had a fun encounter rue de Verneuil with this little cutie outside an Antique shop!

Then we reached the church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés...

... before heading to Passage Dauphine for lunch!

Have a look at the 'tartine' I had for lunch (a slice of bread with slices of aubergine, melted cheese, Bayonne ham and basil)... YUM!!!

AYABA18 enjoyed her meal as well... don't you think? (Here, her dessert: plum clafoutis with plum compote!)

Let's have a closer look... :)

As we headed back towards the m'tro, we had one last look at the Seine:

Good bye AYABA18, I really hope we'll meet again, either in Nairobi or in Paris! In the meantime, we'll keep encouraging each other on our journeys towards a healthier life!

Thank you for reading, dear Sparkfriends! emoticon
