Wishing to get my motivation back for Christmas

Friday, December 02, 2011

So much has gone on since my last blog. My mother died in late July after a relatively short (7 month) history of lung cancer. I've been back to NY three times, June, July and August. I spent time before, during and after my mother died. My daughter's senior year in high school began in August soon after we returned from the funeral. Emily has been in the midst of a busy senior year with all the college applications and such. So much stress! So much inappropriate eating! So little exercise! Lately the return of wicked GERD symptoms and higher blood pressure numbers. The return of having to wear bigger-sized pants. I've done so well for 18 months only to have such a backslide in only 4 months. I know the remedy. I can get back on track. I have to get back on track.
Here is my plan. Next week starts the newest version of PointsPlus at Weight Watchers. I vow to give the new program all I have for the next month. I'll track on SparkPeople and in my WW journal. I'll get back to some level of exercising by walking. I'll curb my stress the best I can without resorting to eating. I'll get at least 7 hours of sleep a night. Could use all the support and encouragement I can get. Thanks!

I came across your blog through Tiny Bikini.

It is quite understandable that you would have done some "backsliding" with all that you have on your plate. And the first Christmas after your mom's passing is bound to be difficult. ( I know mine was). My suggestion would be to cut yourself some slack and just focus on maintenance until after the holidays. We try to do too much all at once and then wonder why we get overwhelmed.
And I can relate to the wicked GERD symptoms...as soon as I lose a few pounds and cut out all the nasty sugar/fat combos, it calms down.
Take care, and be extra kind to yourself over the season.

Why is it that it is so easy to slide back into our old ways? But to get back on track takes so much effort? I am always finding myself in the same old boat and telling myself to "re-commit". You have had a busy time. I'm sorry to hear about your mother. It's never easy losing your mom.

Good luck! Let's not let December bite us in the rear end!

It DOES sound like you've had a lot going on. You've come up with a great plan for turning things around. That plan is a great start. We're all here for you and remember you're not alone. I've been backsliding all year and want to work on turning things around this month also. emoticon emoticon
