I am the diabetes police and I want to retire

Sunday, December 11, 2011

I'm married to an actor who does a lot of community theater. Last evening, he was in a local holiday play. It ended at 10:30 pm. He came out excitedly to introduce me to several other cast members who had decided to go out for "Oreo Sliders" at the local pub-type restaurant. Could we go? Huge sized Oreo chocolate cookies filled with huge portions of ice cream. He was practically drooling.

I put on a huge smile and said, "I'm so sorry; you're talking to family of diabetics. Hubby could have a serious problem if he indulges in pure sugar this late at night with his adrenalin still pumping. "

I could tell that it came across as rude even though it saved hubby from doing something stupid.

Wow, good job. Oreo sliders sound disgusting. Even as a sugaraholic, I have my boundaries. (smiling)

Oreo Sliders? Holy Cookies Batman! What will they think of next?
    You were right though.
I have to police 2 parties here. Mother and grandmother are both diabetic. Brother keeps sneaking mother Blizzards from Dairy Queen. Grandmother has a sweettooth and dementia, so she doesn't understand that she is diabetic. It's so fun! ;-/
