Developing New Habits

What new habit would I like to develop? The one new habit I would love to make part of my daily existence is eating more fruits and vegetables. Currently, I may get in 2 or 3 servings per day if I'm lucky. At least 2 of those 3 servings are normally fruit. So I need to drastically increase my vegetable consumption. I'm looking for ways to make vegetables a larger part of my daily diet. I know it's important because this group of food supplies many needed nutrients. Also, if prepared properly, they can be quite filling without adding a lot of empty calories. This group of food can be a great benefit to me in accomplishing my goal on this journey.

    I find this is hard too. One thing I am doing is getting veggies in other traditional recipes. Sparkrecipes had a great recipe for Butternut squash mac n cheese. Sounds weird, but it is wonderful! A family favorite now. The other day I tried a recipe combining steamed cauliflower and potatoes to make a lighter mashed potato. Really yummy. You can do this!

    Eating a lot of fruit out of season can be costly but frozen fruit is good for us. I love to mix fruit with Greek yogurt to get fruit and protein. I love to try to eat salsa with baby carrots as I watch tv, it has to burn calories. It does distract from watching the shows!

    You can do this! I'm confident that once you begin eating additional servings of fruit and veggies, you'll begin to really enjoy eating them. You'll be able to easily get the additional servings in.

    I would like to develop the habit of 8 hours of sleep a night. Sadly my busy schedule keeps me up later than I want. Also, my body doesn't seem to want me to sleep as much. I need it though so I am working on it.

    You can add veggies to your meals, such as meatloaf or eggs. Or you can juice them. Good luck on working toward your goals!
