Setting the Table...

Anymore, I feel like I could work for the FOOD police and become a detective. LIke most good detectives you must be flexible and willing to go the extra mile in order to "catch your man". Weight watchers is no different. Today we went over mindful eating in connection with Hedonic Hunger....and I understood.

I have been focusing on WHERE and HOW I eat these past few weeks. I no longer eat in front of my computer or on the couch in front of the tv. That is one of the new routines I have been working in connection with my spaces. I have found that I do eat slower....and really pay attention to WHAT I am eating. It is my time of reflection. The after meal snack has disappeared since doing so.

In our meeting, Sherry discussed the ambiance of the setting and the presentation of the meal. To be honest, my first thought was...." Great ...more work". Then I realized, Sherry is usually right.....may not think so at the moment, but in the end, she really is. So ....I listened and did NOT reject the ideas presented.....instead.....I started coming up with my own. What would make my dining SPECIAL? What would PLEASE my Hedonic hunger?

The environment. home....without realizing it........I moved around the table till I found MY spot to enjoy the view.

I can see our spice garden ........and in time watch it come in as the season progresses. I can also see the man with the binoculars......which is a bird house that holds a family. It is a scenery of .....CONTENT. Once it gets warmer....I can eat outside at the picnic table and ...just enjoy being outside.

For presentation.....guess the paper plates will have to go. I am famous for that one. What is the big deal with using REAL dishes? We have a dishwasher, but neither one of us like to empty it. LOL.....sad...but oh so true! Glassware.......I tend to water bottle. Tacky...but also true with the dishwasher. Thinking a nice glass of ice water with REAL LEMONS would be classy!

Food Presentation.....I have actually been working on. Sunday morning breakfast is usually poached eggs on an english muffin. I now add PAPRIKA to the finished product! It makes the plate...look special.

YES.......I can SEE how making DINING more pleasureable........being more fulfilling. I can.

I use to just EAT...and then get MORE. I never took the TIME to ....relax....appreciate the moment.....enjoy WHAT I am eating...and being grateful for what I am having. I took a given..........

I am reminded of the little girl in the commercial that keeps declaring...."WE WANT MORE...WE WANT MORE...."

We don't need MORE. We need to appreciate the experience with the correct portions and choices. There has to be a balance.

Funny.....but.....I comprehend I do.

I don't mean to sound like a personality is certainly not like that. I am more of a realistic....thinking type person.

I left the meeting............

with determination.......and .....SET MY TABLE this week.

    Another nice blog! Great ideas too~Mindful eating. Funny about that commercial(We want more...we want more....),I think about that in a lot of different circumstances. Your blogs make me want to join WW again. I made lifetime,kept going to meetings for a year and 1/2 and then stopped. Now I've gained back almost ALL of the weight emoticon .

    I still eat in front of the TV- watching my shows. However, when at the table, I set it pretty(placemats, good dishes etc...). That is dinner for hubby and I. Though, when eating wherever, I eat very slowly and enjoy what I have made.
    Love what you get to see when eating at table. You will love eating outside when weather permits. It's so relaxing....

    Wow Mary that sounds like me. I am still eating in front of the tv and computer and need to stop. I am going to start a new tradition once we get settled in the new house. We will only be eating in the kitchen which will help i think. Thanks for sharing your wisdom again have a great night.

    Great blog! We are on the same topic minus the Hedonic Hunger...tonight I didn't pick up my iPad while eating dinner...yes still in the living room...however I took my time eating...put the fork down...just savorong the flavor...need to start making changes...little steps...have my husband&son to deal with...

    Food tastes better off real plates and a real meal is also a relaxing experience for me. You could always install a second dishwasher and use dishes out of the clean one instead of emptying it. A plumber friend has actually done this in some homes. Hope you can keep up and enjoy this goal you meal time view is great! emoticon
