Learning about ME
Friday, May 17, 2013
This week has been all about learning ME again, the good and the bad, and trying to figure out what I need to change so that I can lose this weight and get healthy again.
Getting back into exercising has be pretty easy. I started walking every day during my lunch for 30+ minutes. I found a rout near my office that just over 2 miles and right now it takes me right around 38 minutes to walk. To me, that's not bad at all since there is a lot of uphill AND I haven't exercised in over a year. The walks kick my butt and they have shown me just how out of shape I really am. I've also started going on a walk in the afternoons with a good friend of mine. We walk a 1 mile rout, so I've gotten in 3+ miles a day this week.
Getting in 10,000 steps a day is NOT an easy thing to do when I've done nothing but sit on my butt for so long. If I don't go on my 2 walks there is no way I make my 10,000 step goal for the day. I SIT ON MY BIG BUTT WAY TOO MUCH!!!! I noticed this week that my UP has reminded me SEVERAL times to get up and get moving (it vibrates when I haven't been active for 1 hour). Yes, some of the inactive time is me working, but if I'm not busy then why can't I just take a quick walk down the hall?
My eating SUCKS!!! I'm using myfitnesspal to log my food since it syncs with my UP and I also like how the break down that to maintain I have to eat xxx amount, but if I want to lose 1lb a week I need a 500 calorie deficit AND they add in the calories you burn during exercise as "extra" calories you can have if you want them. So all this week I started logging EVERYTHING I eat and drink. I've been able to stay under my allowed calories but OMG looking back at WHAT I ate is a total eye opener. WAY WAY WAY too much sugar (dmn chocolate). Every day this week I have been in the red for sugar. This is something I REALLY need to work on.
I'm also not handling stress very well. Every time I got stress out this week I ran right for food. I use to use exercise as an outlet for stress, but with a new baby (she's 2 months) it's not so easy to just put on my running shoes and leave the house. She gets VERY fussy in the evenings and she also HATES being in her car seat so taking her for walks is almost out of the question (I still have to figure out the dmn Moby wrap). Plus by the time I get home, get dinner made and homework done with my 7 year old, it's past 7p.m. I need to figure out a better way to deal with stress.
So 2 BIG things I need to start working on is WHAT I eat and how to deal with my stress. I'd also like to deal with the lack of sleep, but that won't get any better with an infant. I know once she's sleeping through the night I'll be able to get more that 5 hours of sleep lol.
