Another day at the Farmers Market....

Thursday, September 19, 2013

It is really interesting, the changes that occur at the Farmer's Market with the change of season! Now I am seeing squashes, pumpkins and sweet potatoes, eggplant, cauliflower and broccoli. There are still peaches (not as good), didn't see cantalope, but there is now a booth from a local orchard. They have many varieties of pears and plums, apples of every sort and of course apple cider! All of the fruits are mix and match for 1.99 lb!

I passed by the booths selling wonderful breads and pastries, jams and jellies, hummus and homemade ice cream! I went straight to the orchard table and got a bag full! I got Bartlet pears, Gala apples (my favorite) and Honey Crisp apples. The Honey Crisp apples are now my favorite! They are so crisp and tart/sweet! I can't remember when I have had an apple that I enjoyed so much! I was a little short on cash so I only got two, but I am getting more next week along with a jug of cider!
I also got yellow beans, green and yellow zucchini, mixed salad greens, and a huge red pepper! Along with the 4 apples and 3 pears, the total for the day was $11.75! Awesome!

Next week is Pay Day and I can splurge a little! I really love my trips to the market each week! I am going to be sad to see it end in November! It is a long wait until June! I can still get good stuff, but it is not as fresh or as local! And when the weather gets bad, I will have to rely on canned and frozen emoticon emoticon

But it is not November yet, and I intend to go each week until then!

Hope everyone had a great day!

Honey Crisp apples are my favorite too! I was given Honey Crisp apple juice/cider this past weekend. I am looking forward to more winter squash in my diet too! And my sister made yummy broccoli soup this past weekend (with broccoli, onion, carrots and zucchini)

You are lucky that your market stays open through November. Ours closes at the end of September. Nothing beats fresh produce!

I wish I could go but around here they only seem to have them on weekdays when I have to work. However, I belong to a CSA and get a beautiful box of mixed produce every other week.

I love produce stands and farmer's markets. It is the season here for cabbage, pumpkins, apples, and sweet potatoes. I love to go and see everything. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
