Another day at the Farmers Market....
Thursday, September 19, 2013
It is really interesting, the changes that occur at the Farmer's Market with the change of season! Now I am seeing squashes, pumpkins and sweet potatoes, eggplant, cauliflower and broccoli. There are still peaches (not as good), didn't see cantalope, but there is now a booth from a local orchard. They have many varieties of pears and plums, apples of every sort and of course apple cider! All of the fruits are mix and match for 1.99 lb!
I passed by the booths selling wonderful breads and pastries, jams and jellies, hummus and homemade ice cream! I went straight to the orchard table and got a bag full! I got Bartlet pears, Gala apples (my favorite) and Honey Crisp apples. The Honey Crisp apples are now my favorite! They are so crisp and tart/sweet! I can't remember when I have had an apple that I enjoyed so much! I was a little short on cash so I only got two, but I am getting more next week along with a jug of cider!
I also got yellow beans, green and yellow zucchini, mixed salad greens, and a huge red pepper! Along with the 4 apples and 3 pears, the total for the day was $11.75! Awesome!
Next week is Pay Day and I can splurge a little! I really love my trips to the market each week! I am going to be sad to see it end in November! It is a long wait until June! I can still get good stuff, but it is not as fresh or as local! And when the weather gets bad, I will have to rely on canned and frozen
But it is not November yet, and I intend to go each week until then!
Hope everyone had a great day!
