Oh no, this won't do!

Wednesday, April 30, 2014

I don’t generally mind change, and laugh at those who instantly complain with each change thrown at them. I think I'm generally easy-going.

I draw the line at blogs!

One of my greatest joys every day was to cruise by each of my teams, and check out who had blogged. Here was a great way to see who needed help, who was celebrating a triumph, who had some interesting information to impart, who had an inspiring message for me. And sometimes, I knew I could count on a laugh.

I didn’t need to have that member as a Spark friend, I just needed to share a team – and presumably an interest – with them.

Short of going to the member list of each team, and cruising each page one at a time, I haven’t figured out a way to see how my friends and cohorts are doing. This is not a change for better, SparkPeople!

What am I missing here?

It's hard eh when Spark changed the team thing!--and--a bug zapper is like a tennis racket-It has a handle-and you press a button and a current kills the fly---It's useful as it has a handle and you can reach up on the wall and get the bug. They sell tham for a buck at Dollorama. Lynda

You spoke up, and sparkP listened. They are back on the team page. It did not take them long.

I am happy they are back.

Because I really, really want to know "I scratched myself today" ... but in the more suitable place.

Anything that forces people to have to look up past eye level, is disguised working for it--and is the definition of accountability ...

@ MINICOOPER, what I meant to say was, was that SparkPeople never let any commenters know when other commenters - including the one who wrote and posted the blog - added any comment, to the comment stream on that particular blog to everyone else participating in the blog post comment stream, other than the blog writer/poster who posted the blog; as many more full-featured blogs do.

Nor are the comments threaded per sub-discussion ...

    That is what I meant.

I also intend to make it my business to call out any cross-poster to serious challenge threads across many and conflicting (sometimes) different teams, who don't change one word of the cross post, who contribute nothing of substance to any discussion and politely direct them to the "Team Wall" ... they can do as they wish ... but I will make myself pretty scarce on several threads due to this as my mood dictates .... emoticon

Thank you for speaking so clearly for so many of us who take our Teams seriously. I can't tell you how much time I wasted yesterday trying to figure out how to link onto the my Team Members' blogs. How else can we keep track of what is happening with our teammates...other than clicking on all 100 or so individual team members? I watched the video, read the Spark Blog on the changes...no answers. Asked the question of Spark "help" but it is still based on the old system and told me the Blogs will automatically show up under the Team Stream. Most of the changes like the message board/team huddle makes no difference to me, I can adjust, but with out the blog links, we can't really get too know each other and be a Team, and that is indeed a serious problem for me.

TINIERTINA, I always got notice when a comment was made on my blog post. Don't know how or why, must have been settings somewhere, but I've always been notified of blog comments, page comments, friend feed comments and goodies and those are all gone now and people are complaining. I think this is something of a Windows Vista error......smh.

I also search using what I am interested in reading in a search string, and adding the word 2014

I go back up to about 2 months or so.

These blogs die off in their comments (unless they are the "Popular" or Featured ones) within days. So NOT the purpose of a blog.

And they MUST now be short, because Searchable that way ... (due to % relevance algorithm)

Unfortunately, the SparkPeople blogs are not meant to be full-featured blogs.
But, as a blogger still trying to learn how to blog effectively (and not just about weight loss, or fitness goals or stuff like that ... but about general Life as well), I appreciate these "blogs with training wheels". SparkPeople NEVER let the poster know when their blog received a comment, and is not about to start now.

I have personally noticed that the blog stream for a Yoga team in particular, featured blog stuff in the sidebar about 5Ks and the like. Dozens and dozens of blogs. These bloggers are members of a team that tangentially may mean something to their plan. Their only plan, sometimes (many do not have nutritional or weight loss concerns or goals). As a diabetic with orthopedic problems and painful heel spurs, I do not DO 5K's, never really have, and don't intend to in the future.

Just run a search string including the spark person's SCREENNAME in the Spark Search (or on www.google.com) You pretty much may know who you want to follow.

If you subscribe to their blogs, UNSUBSCRIBE if it gets to be too much.

    Works for ME!!

Agreed, so sad that sp is gradually taking away the main reason I have continued my membership--interaction with other members!

See, without the Blog Stream, I didn't even know you had posted this.
    This must be changed!

have you also noticed when you write a blog you are not getting the email notification that some one has left a reply on your blog.i wrote a blog today with no notification anyone had replied which i thought very strange so went to check out my blog and saw several had replied.lol.i also thing it is wrong the way the don´t mention a friend replying to someone elses blog on friend feed anymore and now this removing the blog stream from the team threads page and now not notifying when someone replies.are they trying to get rid of blogs or what?

That's why I haven't been receiving notice of your blogs. This is not a positive change, SP.

Dee--I agree with you. I found you blog by changing Browse Community Features (Step 3 on start page) to Status & Friend Feed. Now I can see who has blogged and the statuses.

    Hope this helps

I subscribe to my friends blogs and sparkpeople sends me an email each time one of them blogs.

    I totally agree with you!

I hadn't noticed that yet - was just excited that I could send a team goodie! But, now that you mention it, I do hope they rethink striking the blog list!

Given the outcry on this particular change, I predict the blog list will be back. I agree with you.
