STRENGTH

Monday, November 03, 2014

Well I tried to post this yesterday but I lost a rather long detailed blog. But nonetheless I will attempt it again but it'll be really short.

I was laid off from my job with the State of Michigan (SOM) and my unemployment benefits were about to run out. The good thing about working for SOM as you can get a job anywhere in the state. So I put my name on the recall list for neighboring counties and was called to one just before I received my last unemployment check.

I moved to a city 75 miles from my family with no working car, newly divorced and 2 daughters 5 & 8 years old. I had no place to stay as I didn't know anyone. I stayed in a hotel where I could rent a room by the week. It was near where I worked. I had left my girls with my sister as they were in school, I had no daycare set up and no place for them to stay.

I searched high and low for safe place for my girls and myself. Asking co-workers as I wasn't familiar with the area. It became apparent to me there idea of safe greatly differed from mine. I would go see potential place and say I can't stay here.

Fast forward I found a place and after 2 1/2 months I was able to set up daycare, bring my girls to stay with me. I had to walk about a half mile to and from the bus stop. I had $40 to live off of every 2 weeks after all my bills were paid.

But I made it! Sometimes looking back I'm amazed at what obstacles I had to overcome to get to where I am. I give all the glory to God who is my STRENGTH.

I'll fill in all the blanks at another time.
