Quick summary of Beck 1-7

Sunday, September 06, 2015

I'm loving this Beck re-boot and meeting all of you great Beck Trekkers! emoticon

Here's my take on the tasks from 1-7:

1. Create Your Advantage Response Cards
I wrote down my reasons on 3x5 and put them on a ring. Half were health reasons and half personal reasons. Now to remember to read them twice a day. emoticon

2. Pick Two Reasonable Diets
I chose calorie counting with the Glycemic-Index Diet for food choices.

3. Eat Sitting Down
I already do this so will continue on with this one.

4. Give yourself credit
Will make an effort to give myself credit for doing things right and half credit for trying. Will work on catching the negative thoughts and changing them.

5. Eat Slowly and Mindfully
This is one of the main things that I am working on. At the beginning of the year I was counting bites using an athletic counter to help me slow down my eating. I have gotten it back out and hopefully it will help me.

6.Get A Diet Support Coach/Buddy
I asked my sister to be my buddy. emoticon emoticon

7. Arrange Your Environment
Most of the junk food is contained in hubby's drawer so I don't see it. The main things that I am working on is to evaluate my food containers to see if I have what I need to make meal prep easier. I am also re-vamping the arrangement in my fridge and deep freezer. I've watched a few you tube videos that have been helpful.

Okay that about covers that for me. I'm loving this Beck re-boot and can already see a shift in my thinking, as I am more aware of what I am doing and what I am thinking. No more automatic pilot for me. emoticon emoticon I love this Beck group and all of the blogs! emoticon emoticon

    Awesome job on your summary.

I hope you don't feel rushed.

I reckon we deserve full credit for trying, not half credits. We are giving ourselves credit for taking steps to change our thinking so that we think like a thin person, and even trying to do a particular task is taking a step, in my book.

(As a fan of Yoda: "Do, or do not, there is no try" I've just about eliminated 'try' from my vocabulary and do you know, I don't miss it at all

Eating and Mindfully. You said you are counting bites using an athletic counter to help me slow down eating. That would seen cumbersome to me and impossible to do in some situations.

I have a suggestion for another method. Look at the time you start a meal. Choose a time period that is 5 minutes longer than it currently takes you to finish your meal. Let's say you chose 15 minutes.
Watch the clock. The goal is to eat your meal in ratio to the clock.
At 5 minutes, look at your plate. Have you eaten 1/3 of your food? If you have, stop and just look at the food. Drink water while you take a moment to see the colors, textures, ingredients, smell the food. Appreciate how healthy it is and good for you.
Start again with just one bite and try to savor the flavor. Stop at the 10 min. Mark. Repeat the above steps.

You can use this method when eating out, eating with friends whenever it would be hard to us the counter.
