Whew! I need a day to recover from this weekend! At the moment, I am curled up on the couch with the labrador watching the Bears game. I may take a nap... hopefully not before I finish this blog.
So Friday.... busy day at work, came home to an empty house, storms moving in.....AHHH, I thought, sit down and relax. Then thought no, I pulled up a kickboxing workout. Now THAT'S how to wrap up a week!
My sinuses woke me up at 4:15 Saturday morning. Ugh! But I had to get up soon anyway, drive into the city and help my daughter set up this year's annual NEDA walk she coordinates. Lifting boxes of t-shirts, helping lifting tables and chairs to set up, get the registration table set up. I got my workout in! What an emotional but uplifting day.
Jenni Schaefer, author of Life Without Ed, was the guest speaker. It was like a rock star was going to appear. Many people asked me when they checked in if Jenni was really going to be there and has Jenni arrived yet. Jenni has inspired countless men and women, my daughter included, to see they are not alone in their eating disorder, they need to reach out for help and it's okay to be happy.
After all the emotions of the day, I battled Chicago traffic on a Saturday with many events going on including the triathlon which means street closures which means anxiety driving for me! I was SO happy to get home. I took the dog for a walk, showered and got to a friend's house for a BBQ. I melted into the chair as soon as I got there but it was a fun night.
Today was the Brookfield Zoo 5K with my daughter. It was a beautiful day. I had a bit of a rough start. Woke up during the night and blearily turned off my alarm. Good thing my dog never lets me sleep past 5:30. I raced to get ready and get to the train to pick up my daughter. Got to the zoo with 10 minutes to spare! Phew.
Despite very little sleep this weekend, heavy eating the night before and a side cramp after mile 2, I ended up with a 10:12 minute mile which pleased me. Afterward my daughter and I ate at a nearby restaurant we used to go to with my mom when my daughter was little. It was a great morning.
When I got home, I showered and got some cleaning out of the way. Okay, time for that nap.
I hope everyone had a great weekend.
