Birthday Countdown: "60 Days 'til 60"!!!
Thursday, September 24, 2015
Oh my! I'm going to turn 60 soon!
There's something about leaving one decade and beginning a new one that seems more "weighty." Of course... I'm talking about now that I'm getting older. When younger, I couldn't WAIT to get to certain ages:
At 12, I knew I could get my ears pierced.
At 13, I was finally a teenager.
At 16, I could date AND get a driver's license!
At 18, I was graduating high school.
At 21, I was an "adult."
s..i..g..h.. Fast forward now to 59.9 years old.
But I digress! This blog is about my 11th annual birthday countdown!
To re-cap: Right before I turned 50 years old, I got it in my head that I would take the 50 days prior to my birthday and increase my fitness efforts. I wanted to be able to feel and look better on the actual day of my turning 50. So I created a countdown calendar and charted all my workouts. Yep! I certainly increased my fitness!
I felt great!
So each year since, I've repeated.
Since I don't want to turn this into a less-than-happy blog, I will just say that I'm no where near the shape I was in when I turned 50. I now have "more to love!" LOL
But it's still fun (for me) to make the effort each year to follow a birthday countdown. (Hey! Think about trying it yourself! You might enjoy it too!)
My 60 days started a few days ago, and so far, I've REALLY increased my daily fitness!
My intention THIS YEAR is to get no less than 150 cardio minutes per week + two strength training sessions per week.
NOTE: Each year I tweak what I want to accomplish.
Notice that I don't make a statement that I will "lose weight" or be at a certain weight by my birthdate. That's just a recipe for disaster. The only control a person has is what they DO.
(While I did not include dieting as part of my intention, I have found that I'm trying harder to make better nutritional choices.)
I'll make sure to write a follow-up blog at the end of my 60 days. That's what I appreciate about SparkPeople giving us the opportunity to look back and see what we've written from years past!!!
Oh! And if you decide to do your own birthday countdown, let me know! I'll cheer you on!
