Well no I wasn't born to run, it has taken some work but I did a lot of running this weekend.
This weekend alone bumped the Chicago area into one of the snowiest Novembers making two races in one weekend doubly challenging!
Friday, I met my local running group for a Friday Night Lights 5K. Beside my headlamp and shoe lights, I picked up some lighted sticks to make into bracelets and necklaces and some blinking lighted earrings.
You can't tell in this picture but the snow was really coming down before we got started. Almost the entire run, snow was blowing in our faces but we had a great time, laughing most of the way.
Afterward we went to a local Irish bar and grill to listen to a band in which one of our group member's husband plays.
I was in my element. I SO wanted a burger, fries and beer but that's my old element. I'm a new me so I ordered a naked burger (no bun, just lettuce and tomato), a side salad and a cup of hot tea (I was really chilled). It was delicious!
Saturday the snow kept coming and coming and coming. I ran a few errands, did some stretching, got laundry done for the week and hit the hay as the temperature started dropping and dropping.
This morning, Sunday, I woke up to single digits. I shook my head about agreeing to a race today. After a light breakfast, I started layering up and put thick layer of Vaseline on my face to protect my skin a bit.
It was 10 degrees at race time but the sun was out and I met up with three other members of my running group so spirits were high. They played some good music just before starting so I started dancing and didn't feel the cold much.
The trail was pretty but there were many spots of snow and ice so I took it slow and easy. Not a day for a PR, just enjoyed the morning.
The last quarter mile was tough. Too many clothes on and I could see a straight line to my left to the finish line but I still had to run out and around a bit first so mentally I felt done. A flock of geese flew over me squawking loudly so I told myself they were telling me to keep running. I play a lot of mental games!
After I got home, I showered, walked the dog since it was probably the warmest part of the day and now I'm curled up on the couch with DH and the labrador watching the Bears game.
I feel like I'm in a good state of mind to head into my 3rd year of maintenance and the holidays!
